Posted October 24, 2009 Books should be implemented in Wurm Online. If books were implemented, users could record the history of Wurm Online, and they could create their own fiction. Book Statistics I believe pages should hold up to 100 words. Pages could be catagorized into chapters. A numerical page-finder system could be implemented. (i.e. Go to: Page # 19) Books should have their own skill: book-binding. Book-binding should limit the amount of pages you can create within a book. For example, if you have 1 book-binding skill, you can make a 5 page book. If you have 20 book-binding skill, you can make a 100-page book. Experience should come from creating literary works with an item called a "printing press", or from binding books. Creation of Books The printing press should be composed of this: 20 planks 20 shafts 40 small nails 1 clay pot 1 iron alphabet set You would also need a type of ink, like black dye, that would be used and would have to be regularly refilled. 1 leather should be needed to create a single page, so to create a 200-page book, you would need 200 leathers. To bind a book, you would need 2 pages, then to combine them together. The resulting item should be "Stack of Papers". You will keep adding pages until you are satisfied with your books. After an hour, pages should be come permanent. To bind the item into a book, you should need "string of cloth" to bind it. The ratio of pages to string of cloth should be 10:1. The resulting item will be a book. The iron alphabet set should be created form this: 5 iron lumps To create the item, you should use: 1 hammer/mallet 1 small anvil Page creation should be page-by-page, so, to create the book, the process should be this: Books should have properties that should be set at the binding of the book, it can be noted to be "uncopyable" or "copyable". A "page copier" should be added in order to copy pages. However, you must individually copy pages. It could possibly be an addition to a printing press, the required resources to create it should be this: 5 planks 10 shafts 50 stone shards You would still have to get the materials needed to create a book or scroll. Types of Reading Materials Books - Creating these should never fail, the page cap should be 250. Scroll - A scroll will not require "string of cloth" to make, but you will need 2 wooden shafts. The page cap should be 50. Page - A page is simply a leather cloth that has been printed on. Individual pages should be posted on "bulletin boards". Stack of Pages - This is simply a collection of pages that have been stacked on each other. Page cap is 250. Related Items A bulletin board wall should be added, and would allow pages to be posted to it. A bulletin board would be created using these items: 20 planks 2 felled trees To post a page to the bulletin board, you would need 1 small nail. The total amount of pages that can be on a bulletin board should be 20. Pages can be taken off the bulletin board after a week. Bookcases could be a nice addition to books if it is ever implemented. There should only be one type of bookcase. A bookcase would be made using these items: Planks Small nails A bookcase should ahve the capability to have shelves that can be added on. To create a shelve, the ratio of panks to small nails would be 5:4. To connect shelves, you would use two shelves on each other, creating the "stacked shelves" item. Then, you would use 10 nails on the combined "stacked shelve" to turn it into a two-shelved bookshelf. The maximum number of shelves should be 5 on a bookcase. 10 books should fit on 1 shelf of a bookcase. Special Books As a special event, a literary work could be hidden in the wilderness of Wurm. It could contain a special property that would give the reader a special one-time stat boost. It could temporarily or permanently raise the reader's stats. Or, a book, page, or scroll could contain directions to special items within the world of Wurm Online. For example, it could give directions to a special, unique item or a high quality item. Posted October 24, 2009 And this should be done why? There is role play stuff and the history of Wurm Online on the forums and wiki, why write it on a book in-game that can decay? Would you gain anything from reading these books other than just the reading aspect? I can't imagine storing all the info in the books would be great on the server either... Sign posts are rather like bulletin boards... Not trying to be rude, but I just don't see the point.

To clarify the link--Post ideas in existing threads, don't start new ones. Especially on the same page.
