You have no prove that the keys sold there are legit but tell me that I provide false information. As a WU server would be my personal gain, I am here to enlighten the people and to ask unpleasant questions and acting more like a journalist than anything else. Defending the Wurm community, giving something back, that is my mission.

My guess is that the keys come from the humble bundle and reselling humble bundle keys is clearly forbidden, while you are right selling steam keys is not supported by steam but also not clearly forbidden, since they wouldn't have much of a chance to prohibit that anyways. Still a company having a game on Steam should not work against steam in any way, no matter if it is grey area like in this case or clearly forbidden. It is a really bad business decision if you hurt the hand which is feeding you.

The only thing that is sure that such sites never pruchase keys from developers, which is as@Ostentatiostated forbidden. I mean look at the game amounts they are selling hundreds of games there, do you really want to tell me they bought them all on the legal way and got in touch with every publisher?

So you're assuming Gamethrill is doing nefarious acts. Got it.

As for being a journalist, you clearly have a bias and a conflict of interest. I'd welcome it if you didn't have a server running that benefits from your "journalism".

I agree that sites like Gamethrill could be more open about where they're getting keys, and what relationships they have to publishers, but I consider it rather inappropriate to assume that the keys must not be legitimate, as you don't have that information yourself.

We can argue up an down, no matter what comes out in the end. Wherever the keys come from, it is a bad sign that they don't give any information on the origin. And if you google such sites (there are hundreds) they look quite suspicious, which is a very alerting sign to the members of your community. I don't want to spread any bad feelings around here and I am working not related to any WU server in this topic, so please don't feel personally attacked it is not about anyone in person, I just want to clear things up. I could be all wrong about that company, but my feeling is usually right.

My team and me will have an even closer look into the history of that company and look behind the scenes.

I gotta admit that I'm on the fence about this whole company share thing.  I don't know what Game Chest Group is, and researching into its brands really hasn't given me much on whether I can say that it's a good or bad thing.  Honestly, I have no clue what to think about it.  Some aspects about it do rub me the wrong way, but it's less to do with the company and more to do with the inherent negativity that certain aspects they work in have generated due to how other companies have handled them.  Things like selling game keys for cheap, and online betting parlors.  It scares me.  They're not bad as far as I can tell, I can't see any real signs that there a horrible company that will drag us under and enslave us in the salt mines, but at the same time...  I just find this completely terrifying to me.  :<  All I can do is hope that things might work out.

The "false information"  alleged to is about your claim that key selling is strictly forbidden. A claim that you asked to be fact checked on, may I remind you.

Keenan furthermore did not vouch for Gamethrill to be legit, but merely suggested that there are often misconceptions around the practice of key selling. He outright said "not to know their inner workings".

If anyone is making a claim about their legitimacy, it's you with your "guess" -  which is no more valid than Keenan's impression about perceptions surrounding key selling. That means the burden of proof falls onto your side.

Bulk purchasing hundreds of keys from the publisher sounds a lot more realistic than buying it from hundreds of individual players if you ask me like that.

Thanks for letting the community know Rolf :) I have no idea about his company who now owns Wurm but I love the game as it currently stands.  I hope things go well for all parties involved.

I have a concern in relation to possible playerbase information kept by Wurm Online, e.g. email addresses and so forth, which can be sold (as some major companies seem to do on occasion)...what checks and balances are in place to maintain confidential information in relation to the player base?  Sorry if I sound silly, I am not very au fait with game transfers and perhaps this does not even factor into anything. Thanks in advance.

So, Rolf have 8 out of 10 slices of an old 1 kg pizza.  The pizza is under threath of going bad, and Rolf doesn't have the materials to fix the pizza alone. Another company have several big pizzas with lots and lots of slices. So he gives the 8 slices to the big company, and get 0,8 kg of their slices in return. So he still have an interest in the old pizza not going bad and the new company really think they can fix the old pizza, or they wouldn't trade their slices with Rolf.

If the old pizza actually goes bad, Rolf will still lose, but not everything he's worked for in so many years. And all of us, living on the old pizza, now have new overlords that have a fresh interest in stopping the pizza going bad. So, good job Rolf, sounds like the smart thing for you to do. Just make sure to squize some pizza sause from the new guys.

I really don't know what the concern is all about.  Anyone still playing already knows the game was barely on life support and leading to an inevitable extinction. BUT, we keep playing (for the most part) and riding it to the bitter end.

NOW the game has a very real hope of change, with a potential boost to it's life expectancy.  It could die quicker, but it was dying anyway, but at least this gives it a chance to survive.  Game Chest just made a big investment and they certainly would not have done so, if they thought it was going to end in failure.  While it does sometimes work that way, we at least have hope that Game Chest has a plan to make things better.

Wurm could lose the ability to sell with real cash transactions.  It could just become a set of officially run WU servers.  It could turn into micro transactions, but knowing the players here, I suspect that would not fly well and backfire.

I'd honestly been considering selling off accounts and even opened some chats with potential buyers, but just could not pull the trigger.  Now I am glad I didn't.  I'd like to stick around long enough to see what Game Chest has in store for us.

You don't want to spread bad feelings and want to clear things up, yet you only comes with suspicions and have no facts to back them up with whatsoever. If those are indeed your goals then the next time perhaps gather facts first? Spreading baseless suspicions because of a gut feeling you have won't help to accomplish those goals. If you want to act like a journalist (as you mentioned in an earlier post) then don't put your cart before the horse.

Maybe you think you don't ... but you do... If you really mean what you say.. start acting like it.

Would you continue to play the game if it no further updates were foreseeable?  I probably would - at least casually.

In my opinion, a game’s death isn’t decided by factors outside my control.  It’s defined by my interest in it.  If you don’t want to play it and would rather find something more mainstream/modern - go for it.  As long as the subscriptions outweigh the operating expenses, it’s likely the game will continue indefinitely.  Look at other legacy games that have been around 20+ years and are still going.  Now whether updates will continue or advertising dollars are invested - that’s another story.

Bottom line - it’s likely the game will be here in one form or another 10 years from now.  The only question is... will you?

So you want more money invested into the game and advertising, but when Rolf brings boys with more money, it's a sad day?

Although perhaps not such a bad deal for Rolf (since he accepted more that half of this buyout in shares of a penny stock sort of company started (Listed? in 2017) I am sad to see him relinquish control as the god of Wurm. To me his determination and success in keeping Wurm alive all these years in spite of all the player resistance, condemnations and hope on their part for failure because he did not follow their wisdom in a multitude of areas; was an inspiration in one man standing alone to keep it all going.

Make no mistake, all those who did assist him positively in various aspects to make this happen were there ultimately because of him, which is always why I have considered him to be the true god of Wurm (but without the capital G for that would be a bit too much worship, even with my high opinion of his achievement).

Now we have new nebulous overlord pretenders to the game with little understanding of it's deeper meanings and significance in the hearts of many players and basic concepts of equality through achievement (other than buying accounts of course). Which direction this will all take none know but the hopers will continue to be hopeful and the doomers continue with the gloom.

As to Rolf, I salute you with respect for you have accomplished what few could have imagined yet many had hoped, to create a game based upon the concept of life and the values that it holds. I hope that as your life continues in new and positive directions that you will find the enjoyment within it that many have found within these fond lands of Wurm, so carefully tended by your hands, heart and mind.

Happy Trails

=Ayes=

Sklo, sorry to tell you that, but you may be sued in certain countries if you spread false and imfamous informations about someone, even if these informations may prove, over time, true. If i were in you, i'd be more prudent and lean to say that it's already enough that the same company we speak goes from cash shops in game to online casinos (if i remember well), to sell games in humble bundles, wich is basically a games discount wich leverages over the chance for the developers to make a little more gain if they cut their profits all over his product. About those bundles, i am pretty sure to know how they work: resellers pays royalties to Steam, who gains over basically owning the games they sell, to get the keys they then sell to players. Steam gains from that practice comes from the fact they don't need to do work for this gain, they just rake money from a product they already have milked enough, and if the reseller does not sell enough of those products, well, worse for him.

Overall, the naivety i can read on most of the comments is staggering: from the staff basically telling their 300 players that they are stupid instead of reassuring them that the game is not already half into the sink (a thing that you can easily see by staying the last year into wurm: from 450 to 300 players online on average, not counting the 1200 we had when xanadu was in), to those players still thinking there's an actual cure for a game that is already worse than their clones, even if the staff is not even payed for the work they do, thou someone is getting money over their shoulders, and not little money.

Don't get me wrong, i wish so much that the game could get better, but over the years, i NEVER saw that happen, and a lot of things were done to go into that direction: it's not that i've no hope or faith, it's that i became atheist over the years.

Interesting, I guess. I mean it does spell out that there will be changes though.

Wurm, by it’s very nature is a process of continual change, not just the game itself, but every aspect of it’s existence has changed over the relatively short time since I began playing, there’s barely anything left of the wurm I began playing.

Change is inevitable, wurm changed when Notch left, it changed again when Rolf stepped away from the development process, and it’ll change again. Change has got us where we are today, and change will take us somewhere else in the future.

And whatever changes we face, there will be those who embrace it, and those who resist it, and those who simply retreat from it, change is what we make of it, as individuals.

Our plans continue as before and our development work and goals remain the same.

We will still be directly working with Rolf in almost all scenarios, or working off our own internal plans.

I refer everyone to the original "plans for the rest of 2019" roadmap as to what our goals are, with Jackal out of the way.

Quote

Later in the year after Frontier is complete we’ll be moving onto extending the building options available to everyone, and later on after that we will begin working on plans for introducing another new skill to the game.

Frontier will also be a precursor for big changes that will come to Epic in the future, and feedback from how everything goes later in the year will inform us on how we implement the current plans that we have. These changes to Epic won’t be anytime in the next few months, but when they do come they will involve a large overhaul to the cluster in an attempt to bring it closer to the original design for Epic years ago. We will be addressing the larger complaints of the Epic community in that update - but some smaller changes will be heading to live in the coming months as well. For those changes see the recent feedback thread posted here. More info about the exact plans we have for later on will be shared after Frontier is live.

All of these plans have been shared with Rolf and approved by him, they'll continue as we intend.
