[3236] Item QL loss on server crossing

Recommended Posts

After other day's loss of QL i replicated it.

99.99833 > 99.9983  after crossing server

IGN: Martynas

Item:

[15:28:01] A hood to shelter you from poor weather, glaring sun and glaring eyes. This is a supreme example of the item, with fine details and slick design. The white cloth hood has an open seam that must be backstitched with an iron needle to improve.
[15:28:01] You can barely make out the signature of its maker,  'Martynas'.
[15:28:01] A tin rune of Vynora has been attached, so it will increase the chance of increasing rarity when improved (10%)

The float storing the quality is truncated when transfering from one server to another due to limitations in the communication protocol. This leads to the loss of the last digits.

At least not happening in WU

Well it is the most realistic guess.

It is strange as this shouldn't happen. The datastreams in use should normally cover all digits easily in 4-byte

Actually 99.99833 is the maximum which can fit in 4-byte, so truncating should be at 99.99833 and not at 99.9983

This is not happening in Wurm unlimited, so I can't test this any further. Really strange but good catch. Best is to have a GM look into it if the QL stored behind is really lower now and it is not an error while displaying in the GUI.

If it is really happening for the WO team check the Java version?? of the affected servers this is not happening under the newest Java 8 at least. No idea quite strange problem. Or some recent ninja change which has not made it to WU yet.

If crafting window could show more decimals that would be great.

Also reimping this item, that will show for sure if it is visuals or not.

Java 8 here.

Thankfully it didn't take long this time to imp.

It is a server side thing (maybe) so not your java version. No idea what could cause it. But it indeed seems to happen on cross server communication.

The crafting window shows all digits (4 byte float)

This sounds like a database problem, since Java shouldn't be the issue as explained by me above. This is also not happening in WU and the biggest difference between WU and WO is the different database. SQLite vs MySQL

It is likely that the database field is too small or a datatype is used which can't cover a full "java" float
