A decade (very nearly) come and gone

Recommended Posts

My spies tell my that 17 June this year is the 10th anniversary of the Independence server.

I have no idea if there's any official celebration planned but I for one will mark the day/week in some way.  I don't know how yet, but I do know that although I don't play as much these days I'd be happy to use this as an opportunity to celebrate the good memories I've made in and through this game over the past decade.

So yeah; that's my PSA for today.  I wonder how many of us migrants are still playing.

Funnily enough, I'm coming back around the end of May/June, and I haven't been around since 2016/2017... Been playing for many years before that, longest game I've stuck around with, and definitely plan on coming back to spend more wonderful years on this game.

I was there the day Inde opened.  I was in the armada that crossed from JKH.  I watched the split: some going straight, some left, some right, as we fanned out to meet the land.  It stands out as one of, if not THE, greatest memories for me in Wurm.

Oh yes, memories of Indy... my first home in new world. I still remember the thrill of exploring these wild lands, looking for adenture, finally settle... this was the first time I've seen it not only like a new land, but it was more like totally new world of opportunities to me. Great times, great island.

GM would teleport everybody down and put the statue, then allow players to climb, first out take the flag,

Happy anniversary;

To all you made it, all who stayed, and all who have left us along the way.

The Independence anniversary has now come and gone with nearly a whisper. Now an active celebration of some sort is postponed until who knows when.

Yet those who remain have their memories to cling to, such as the time you snuck into my deed through a wall a Troll bashed down to admit your curious entry. As I was working around there repairing a few other bashed/bumped Troll fences in its frantic attempt of the new "escape" mechanic, I heard you mumbling something in the distance when I greeted you to the effect:

"How do I get out of this hell hole?!!" Needless to say I was not pleased with the insult so I quickly escorted you to a gate, unlocked it and when you departed never had the unpleasant experience of interacting with you in the game again. Yes, some old memories remain of those days. Mostly pleasant ones though, of good neighbors, roads expanded and improved and deeds built, both my own and those nearby.

I missed the start of it by one year but have never regretted the time I spent within these lands, nor most of the people I have met, despite our possible differences. Some though just rub you the wrong way I guess. Those I find best to leave in the dust of the decaying ruins that they have left behind in various ways. Ahh well, we all have our faults. None more than myself I suppose but time spent within the game has a curious way of healing old wounds. The callouses can be a bit scratchy at times though.....
