Remove Email Limitations

Recommended Posts

Does the email restriction of 5 characters per email address truly solve anything?

Seems to be more of an annoyance for people with multiple characters/Alts. Most people will just use a different email.

Would be nice to have all characters on one email.

Thanks.

I agree, it's a pain when I have 13 toons atm and have to discontinue my main mail adress.

Most emails you can do +x to do the same email, or add punctuation and it'll be registered as a new email for signing up for stuff

etc oblivionnreaver@whatever.com  oblivionnreaver+1@whatever.com oblivionn.reaver@whatever.com would all be valid emails to register with, but all the mail directed to any of these 3 would end up in the inbox of oblivionnreaver@whatever.com.

That being said, i don't see why a limit on characters on 1 email is needed. +1

Of course you make a good point here Allisya but maybe in the Developer mind it does. Who can fathom this reasoning with other than speculation. True enough those who have had the need of more that 5 characters over the years have without much thought scratched their heads for a second or two and come up with the brilliant idea for evading this restriction! Perhaps it is all just designed to makes us feel wickedly triumphant in our circumventions. A hearty well done to everyone!

That's "general rule" in some rfc.. how all mails that do not exist should just be redirected to a RANDOM "closest match"?

Without actually having the mails registered and setting up filter to mail that to a single location... don't know why you think that's a thing that will just work everywhere.

--edit

As for the 5x limitation stops nothing and it's not intended.. you're apparently allowed to mess with everything any way you see fit and spawn 50-100+ accounts. Already happened with prem 3x day free code, seen ~80 alts logged in to dupe more unique blood messing with the worth of other in existence ... but these.. being generated for free instead of paying for prem to get such.

I think that this rule should indeed be given up and replaced by a more operational one, for example:

Player - A player is the natural person who registers and holds one or more accounts at Wurm Online

Character - A character is the ingame avatar of a player. A player can play more than one character (some games have limitations of the number of characters played by the same player at a time, that were more reasonable than technical distinctions like email, IP etc. which are subject of technological change, it would also address abuse like that with the 3-days code)

Alt - Jargon for further characters played by the same player. The distinction between "alt" and "main" does not have relevance for Wurm Online and Code Club.

A player is obliged to reveal the characters controlled if asked for by Wurm teams no matter under which IP or email adress they are registered. Intentionally obfuscating the player->character relationships before Wurm teams may result in warning, temporary, or permanent ban of one or all accounts of the player.

Email limitations just make things worse for players and GMs anyway, it makes it harder to remember what emails you used when you come back a couple years later and don't know what your password is and have to get GMs to help because you don't know which email for a password reset.  If you use the same email for everything, it's easier for the player to remember what was used to prevent taking up GM time, and it's easier for the GMs to confirm ownership with all the different variables in data there could be on your accounts especially over time or on different servers.

It serves no purpose and staff even encourages using bypasses as posted above so it should just be removed so everyone can keep all their accounts on the same email and it's fair to those that use email providers that don't use the extra stuff like dots or + in the email address
