[Fixed] No lighting until sometime after launching the client.

This was first noticed following today's maintenance downtime.

 

When first starting the client and coming into the world all is dark even though it is day, no lighting other than stars. A short time later the glow from a personal light(?) is added, and about a minute later daylight is added.

 

Easiest to see this in a series of screenshots, note the times in the events window.

yep thats what is happening to me on Exo, is it just Exo or is it happening on all servers?

This happened to me on both Exodus and Xanadu. (When crossing the server border, too)

It has not happened to me on Deliverance yet. I did quite a few swims back and forth between Exodus and Deliverance. It happened on Exodus every time without fail and not once on Deliverance...

It happens when I cross servers - if I have more alts on the boat, all is affected and they get the proper lighting quit at the same time - about 1 sec difference.

It strongly reminds me to the effect when someone recharges an artifact on Epic - same darkness level and lights appear after about similar time.

additional info: exntering Exo has always that effect - even the Rift beam stays black instead of red after the lights come back.

If you cross server border before the lights shine up it will stay dark indefinitely

Can we get a firm start date on this if possible?

 

The maintenance restart above did not have any code changes. The last patch with code changes prior to the 23rd was October 4th.

As far as I'm aware it only happens to me on Exo and Xan. It is quite possible to be present from 23rd Oct, but I surely did not notice it right on that date - being entering those servers later only.

I am fairly certain that it did not happen prior to the 23rd, it is so noticeable, the sudden change from night to day, that I expect I would have spotted it if it had happened earlier than that.

 

Looking at my event logs for the 22nd, I can see that at least once I logged in outside during the wurm day (at the Xanadu rift) and I did not notice this problem.

 

Given comments above, about only seeing this on Exodus and Xanadu, and it being 4:23 wurm time I've just logged in an alt on Independence, using the same client settings, and I don't see the problem over there. So, not a client issue?, but probably something that the client is receiving from the server for at least the day/night rendering not being received at the expected time???

I've only been noticing it for the last 3-4 days I think, but I swap between WU and WO and honestly may not have been logging into WO much before the Halloween event got under way.

Also the rift beam is not red-white but black-white on Exodus, no idea if the two issues are related but seems to started around the same time.

I've been noticing this since yesterday. I thought it was a bug with multi clienting, but it happens with just my main.

Cross into Xan, it's pitch dark. 30 seconds later, Sol finally sets itself correctly.

Sure this isn't some new time zone feature, to show that Planet Wurm is round?

Exo was in darkness when I had to server hop to attend the Kyklops slaying in Release on 2nd November.

 

Release and Deliverance were in daylight.

I've had this when i cross servers, and once when i have logged on to my regular playing server.

Crossing Servers as following and results, and this started for me about 3 weeks ago,

Independence -> Release Black screen, had to wait for lightning to adjust, this was daytime in game i left from a sunny inde

Release -> deliverance Normal lightning, still daytime

Deliverance to Xanadu Pitch black, evening ingame

Xanadu back to Independence Pitch black even with lantern, night time ingame

Just had this happen on Xanadu. I went outside and was looking up at the starry sky with no sun visible. Suddenly the sun and daylight appeared. Even though the world had rendered there is a delay of approximately a minute before the sun was rendered.

An observation, and a very probably a silly thought.

 

Is it this issue really a problem with the lighting? I just noticed the moons change when the lights come one, is it is probably more correct to say this is a problem with the position of the sun and moons, and the client is just lighting the world based on where it thinks the sun and moon are.

I wonder, could it be that this has a similar underlying cause to an old issue with frozen time and sun/moons suddenly changing position?

There was a comment, I forget where, that there was a change put in that corrects the issue (think that was the wording). So, could it be that the underlying cause is currently happening on those servers affected. The sudden jump to having the sun/moons in the correct place, and the sudden lighting change, is just that earlier correcting code setting things straight with the client?

It's different per server for me, xanadu does it 100% of the time while independence has never done it for me.

Maybe 1-2 weeks prior to halloween, I suspect the false light appeared at the same time.
