VERIFY YOU HAVE x64 Java Installed

  1. Try clicking Start Menu.
  2. Type Java.
  3. Find Java Control Panel.
  4. Go to Java tab > View > Verify you have x86_64 installed.

SET DEFAULT PROGRAM FOR .JNLP files.

  1. Right click the .JNLP file and select Properties.
  2. Under the General Tab, click Change.
  3. The Open with window will appear.
  4. If there is a listing for Java(TM) Web Start Launcher in this window, select it and click OK, then proceed to step #7.
  5. If there is no listing for Java(TM) Web Start Launcher in this window, proceed to step #4.
  6. Click the Browse button.
  7. Navigate to the Java directory on your computer.
  8. C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_144\bin
  9. C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_144\bin
  10. Note: the number following "jre" above will vary depending on your installed version of Java.
  11. Select javaws.exe and click Open.
  12. Click OK.
  13. If prompted, click Unblock.
  14. Click OK.

If you recently installed Java, try restarting your PC.

It's not the Dev's fault you can't figure out how to use Java.

Maybe try providing more information to us so we can actually help you.

If your still around, uninstall any form of java you have installed.  Once no version of java is installed, then run the install setup for the x64 java offline version you downloaded.   After the installation has completed, it should automatically associate .jnlp files (wurm in this case) to java x64.   You should now be able to launch wurm online and get it setup without issue.

Make sure you  reboot /restart the computer after installing java, just to be safe.

The fact that windows does not know how to "use" java suggests some settings have not yet been applied to the registry.

It is also possible that Java is somehow associated with some other program previously installed on the computer, so try this :

Setting Windows File Associations to Open .JNLP Files Properly

Also, since you played Wurm fine in the past and had issues after getting a new computer .. did you simply copy over the wurm or java files from your old computer to the new computer? That might cause some issues, even if you later reinstalled both Wurm & Java, unless you thoroughly cleaned out all old references and settings and made sure to hand delete all old folders before reinstalling.

As others have said, this is a java issue with your system, not with the game.

Follow the instructions others have given, and if you need more help provide the information asked for
