Looks like an older laptop still using a very very old driver from the manufacturer, which may not have updated in years and years. Looks like a 2010 driver.  Usually it is better to NOT use Windows Update (as they tend to push a Microsoft version that focuses more on their own DirectX and sometimes won;t even run OpenGL games properly)
 
Maybe have them try the NVidia driver site directly:
 
 
 
Now, the problem is SOME laptop makers will not allow their laptops to update through NVidia's site, only through their own site, and yet they might stop updating any video drivers soon after release of that model, making all their drivers 10+ years old.  Another problem is, some people take older laptops, update them to Win10, then find they no longer have any support for their older hardware because Win10 won;t support it. So they get stuck with a very old driver that never gets updated, because the laptop maker never intended that hardware to run on Win10. 
 
Can you ask your friend to find the EXACT make and model of their laptop, and I can try to track down better drivers (but try the NVidia site first!  And don;t use Windows Update to update graohic drivers!!)

Actually, this driver might be a good one to try:

It's a somewhat generic "reference driver"   NVidia makes for Win10 notebooks, including ones using the older NVidia 310M. If it gives you the option, install DRIVER ONLY and not any of the other junk they try to bundle with the driver (Geforce Experience etc) as those bog down and cause their own issues. I always uncheck everything except the basic driver, and maybe PhysX (usually I already have that anyway).

 

The 310M is a very very weak graphics card, not really any better than an Intel integrated chip, so make sure they have as many settings turned down as possible before they launch the game. The steam version f the game lists a Geforce 4xx as the "minimum requirement", although I have seen older cards do ok, and the main reason is only the newer chipsets fully support some of the OpenGL features, but turning some features down or off may help. There has been a recent issue with GLSL being required in some newer versions of the game client, but older chipsets sometimes cannot handle GLSL very well, or at all, and I am not sure but there may be a better client version for them to try.

 

 

 

Does the crash at launch ALWAYS happen, even if they reboot the computer and try again multiple times, or was this a one time thing on their very first attempt to run the game?

Also some chipsets/drivers seem to have issues running fullscreen, I forget now what this setting translates to:

display_settings = false:true:0:1024:768:32:-1:false:true

However I would have them adjust the settings in launcher to use under Graphics tab  windows resizeable 800x600 (not fullscreen) wait and see whether they get ingame without crashing, then "maximize" the window to fill the screen

If updating drivers won't help, disabling GLSL in compatibility settings should.
