Posted July 18, 2018 Hi Everyone! We're back with another Valrei International, giving you the low down of what we've been up to and what's going on, so let's get to it! Bugfix blitz A lot of our work these past few weeks have been major pushes on addressing a huge amount of bugs, but we've got a few things to delve into as well, so here goes PvP stuff Many of you may have noticed a thread on the forums regarding PvP, and I know there were a lot of discussions about what could be done or what was needed. We spent a lot of time discussing it internally as well as within the thread, taking the time to read through everything (and yes, we can see hidden posts). There's a few back end mechanics we'll be working on for the next update and then we'll begin stepping into some of the heavier stuff, we'll be working very closely with you all via the feature feedback forum, so expect that soon! Renderer work Samool has been super hard at work improving and optimising the modern renderer coming soon, there's not much in the way of discussion about it, as it's goal is pretty simple, improve performance drastically and eliminate the need to have GLSL shaders disabled for better framerates! I managed to grab a few shots from him just to add some pretty pictures to the news (and wow are they pretty) When bugs become features We always make jokes about bugs being features, but occasionally there's a funny story. On the dev side we include logging for a wide variety of things, those who have been GM's on WU servers will know about logging of roads, as well as a lot of other internal things, but recently one logging feature had a little bug... Quote [10:26:28] <Archaed> died with the reason of death being Damage. Attackers=8 : Unknown. Unknown. Unknown. Unknown. Unknown. Unknown. Unknown. Unknown. This got us to talking about a few things, and thus this little bug has now become it's own feature with next update introducing the PvE death tab! Rest assured, for those embarrassed about dying to a mountain lion or autowalking off a cliff, there will be an opt out function within the player profile, and players with low skills will not show to avoid spam. The tab can also be closed via the profile too, but I know I'll be expecting a lot of jokes when i next die! Unique bloods Next update will be introducing some changes to the types of unique bloods that drop from certain uniques, we won't be going into full detail, but we'd like to give a little heads up incase you're holding onto bloods. Mixing some bloods after the next update will result in different potion types as we will be making sure all uniques drop bloods that mix into unique potion types.(I'm sure that makes sense) so if you want the potions they currently make, nows the time to mix them! We will also note we won't be removing any types, simply changing ones that double up. Wurm interior design It ran a little longer than expected, but that';s due to the introduction of part 2 of placing items on things, I'll totally blame that. We're blown away by what people have done with the ability to place items on tables, and it really does just add that extra oomph to making a house really look like a home. we have five winners to announce,, and there's been a lot of discussion with each dev picking their favourite, I'm pleased to announce the winners are: 1st prize: Seriphina with her tour of Lorewood Gardens and the beautiful library! Spoiler 2nd price: Rhea with her tale of the great feast with a twist, a great use of the feature to write a mystery! I was expecting a goldilocks story, but I'm glad it wasnt, has someone done a rapunzel? Spoiler 3rd prize: Aniceset with her tour of Amish Paradise, the bar is amazing and I have never met Candi in my life Spoiler 4th prize: Kasumi with her troll cooking up a tasty foot and mouth stew (Yes, I checked the ingredients) Spoiler 5th prize: Jakerivers workbench, it somehow still looks tidier than my RL workbench! Spoiler A (dis)honourable mention goes to cenotaph for his luxury new player hotel, I mean, slave cage Spoiler We'll be in touch over the weekend with your prizes! Friendalong! The friendship bay friend-a-long is quickly coming up, with imping, events, GM slayings (which will be even more fun with the death tab and general socialising. I took a few minutes out of the day to drop in on host VirusMD, and nag him all about it: Spoiler <Retrograde> So, tell me a little bit about yourself and the location, bit of history <Virusmd> Ive been playing on and off since ~2013, really got back into game ~2 years ago. Had always wanted to do a market style deed before, but never quite had the skills etc. <Virusmd> me and a friend wanted a location that would required a ton of teraforming but would eventually serve as an ideal location <Virusmd> so we picked a cliff side and clay filled ocean here <Retrograde> and this is south pristine, right? <Virusmd> slowly the area has expanded around the bay, comeing back to life <Virusmd> yah (Editor's note: It was at this point I noticed the 200k garlic) <Retrograde> thats... a lot of garlic <Virusmd> we networked all the island, highways, got bored i guess we started talking about a summer impalong back in november ish i guess <Virusmd> decided it was something i could easily fund with the market up and going, opened that a few months later <Virusmd> our alliance does alot of the community projects here <Retrograde> I think alliance projects are the best thing in wurm <Virusmd> i chose this location cause it was close to my place bascially and easily accesible to others <Retrograde> so this deed was specifically founded for the event? <Virusmd> yes <Virusmd> i didnt want it on deed for potential future expansion <Retrograde> Understandable <Retrograde> In that case, why the choice of name? <Virusmd> i dont recall really we threw some names around in chat, thats what i landed on i guess <Virusmd> then serraphine started calling it the friend-a-long and it stayed <Retrograde> It's a good name, I approve <Virusmd> agreed <Virusmd> small start this year but i intend on doing it again next year <Virusmd> may be another wurm tradition who knows <Retrograde> oooo, something to look foward to! <Retrograde> So, what can attendees expect apart from the imping? <Virusmd> the ususals, plenty of materials to advantage of the new metal usages. A dye station? blood mixing, some pvp tournements, horse races, hopefully some other stuff <Virusmd> kind of light on events atm <Virusmd> the top floor of the inn is filled wiht hundreds of barrels of booze, bunch of random rares and other stuff to give away <Virusmd> the casting are will hopefully be much easier to manage then previous events, much more altar access, and ive sorted the priests/spells into groups based on certain factors <Virusmd> area^ <Virusmd> should help smooth things out a bit, that was always the hardest part for me at previuos events <Virusmd> tripping over ppl at the altars <Retrograde> I remember some novel approaches to that <Virusmd> check out the top floor of the pottery building here <Retrograde> We'll also be providing shambling hordes of zombies and bloodthirstry nogumps <Virusmd> oh well of course <Virusmd> i always tell ppl "if a GM didnt try to kill you, you didnt do it right" <Retrograde> Exactly, we're restricted to slaughtering players only on event days, so luckily this lines up <Virusmd> lol <Retrograde> What would you say you are looking forward to the most? <Virusmd> hmmm, id have to stop chopping to think about that i think <Virusmd> i guess the only real goal is the social aspect, helping out the new players most of all, i guess <Virusmd> i just wish i had time to mass some electrum up, but there is just no way <Retrograde> youve got plenty of time! <Virusmd> sure if i dont sleep <Retrograde> Hahaha <Retrograde> One final thing, Is there anything you'd like to say to our readers? <Virusmd> Bring all the things! <Retrograde> Hahaha <Retrograde> Is there anything specific you still need? <Virusmd> mainly veggie chopping, donations that could used for prizes, and we really dont have alot of priests signed up, could def use more there <Virusmd> would be a shame for there not to be enough priest for this ~200k veggies <Retrograde> Haha <Retrograde> Well, I'll get the word out! It's on over the weekend of July 27th - 30th, be there, or have no friends!* *You will still have friends if you don't attend, they'll just be sad That's it this week from us, we'll be putting the finishing touches on our updates with the planned launch in the next week or so, so stay tuned for that! Until then though, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.

Posted July 18, 2018 That render is sick and I wish PVE tabs were a thing when aus got killed on cartier to trolls lol. Posted July 18, 2018 (edited) I would have said let us create some mini games for the Imp-A-Long, but I'm more excited about the PvP changes and focus. Good work on all the updates. QOL updates looking good. Edited July 18, 2018 by nicedreams

Posted July 18, 2018 Grats to the winners!!! I'm really excited about the new renderer - isn't there an alpha version we could try? Thank you for squashing the bugs - I wonder some devs have a personal goal to kill 5k bugs? On bloods - nice idea to make them all unique. Two questions: Will the current ones which have a single way to create (like mining, WC, etc) stay, or do you plan to shuffle it around? Is there a plan with frost and acid to either replace them or make them actually useful?
Posted July 18, 2018 I approve of a redo of the bloods. Some of them have totally lost their oomph since the introduction of runes. I'd like see imbues on my hatchets and picks again

As of today pre-patch: duplicates: Black Dragon and hatchling are armor smith Blue dragon and hatchling are fletching Red dragon and hatchling are weaponsmiting non-duplicates: Green Dragon is tailoring Green Hatchling is Acid White Dragon is blacksmithing White Hatchling is Frost Forest Giant is woodcutting Goblin Leader is mining Kyklops is leatherworking Troll King is stonecutting Obviously the ones that share a potion type will change and we don't really need to know which one of the two will change into what because you probably don't even know until the darts are thrown right before the patch but it would be nice to know if the other non duplicates will change also. Posted July 18, 2018 (edited) Looking forward to the upcoming impalong. Tomorrow I'll be making a bunch of iron lamps (imping them to as high as I possibly can of course(50ish)) to be imped to 70 (though I'll still abide to the 'one at a time' rule). It'd be nice if the junk potions would be changed or improved, too. There's pretty much no reason to even bother mixing acid or frost potions, much less doing something with them afterwards.
Posted July 18, 2018 I said this in discord, but I'm really happy with the clients performance lately, no crashing, no memory leaks and everything looks a hell of a lot nicer. Idk if this is just a side effect or work was actually done as a focus, but yeah. Rendering system looks dank, keep up the good work you client-devs

Posted July 23, 2018 No pretty trees here in WU with the current renderer because of low framerates. So I hope the new renderer will perform even with older hardware. linux mint 17.3 / Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 / Intel core quattro
