[Resolved] "Unable to launch the application"

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm having issues trying to download Wurm in that every time I press play on the main website I get a message saying "Unable to launch the application" When pressing details the error message reads:

"Unable to load resource: http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp."

I looked over this thread:

I tried their solutions with no success. I still get the same error message. I appreciate any help I can get!

This is what pops up in the error message:

I do. I've uninstalled and re-installed it several times, although that doesn't seem to work.

I found people with similar issues who cleared their temporary java cache and downloaded again and were able to get in.  Please try:

If clearing cache doesn't help, please be sure you have Java installed (wurm works with java 8 only at this time).  Also give us details about your computer and operating system.

I just restarted my computer and it started to work, but now a window keeps popping up saying "This seems to be your first time playing." Nothing else happens.

EDIT: Scratch that, restarted my computer again and now it's back to the "Unable to launch application" message.

Tried both clearing my cache and I've downloaded and re-installed java several times. Hasn't helped.

Tried finding specs, this is what I found:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Intel(R) HD Graphics 530

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

A buddy and I ran into this same problem today... 2 different computers with Windows 10.  Here's what worked for us... although now that the installation has progressed I can't retrace the steps again to share 100%.  The gist though:

- right-click the Wurm shortcut that was placed on your desktop

- choose open file location

- right-click the lone wurm file there, choose properties

- go to compatibility settings, and click a button labelled High DPI settings, or similiar

- check both boxes (don't know if both are actually required - perhaps just the first one would do the trick)

- OKs, and run that lone file

Then you'll correctly be prompted for a directory to install the game to.  And that desktop shortcut will get updated to point to where the client was installed.  Hope that works for any others that come looking!
