Incorrect patch notes/in-game text for some metal/rune effects

Recommended Posts

The following metal feature patch notes are incorrect:

  • +X% ql bonus to items created when using a tool of this metal type
  • +X% bonus to quality upon creation

These effects actually reduce the distance between the normal QL and 100 QL by X%.

For 10%, e.g. an adamantine tool:

  • 1QL becomes 10.9QL, which is +990%.
  • 10QL becomes 19QL, which is +90%.
  • 20QL becomes 28QL, which is +40%.
  • 50QL becomes 55QL, which is +10%.
  • 80QL becomes 82QL, which is +2.5%.
  • 90QL becomes 91QL, which is +1.111%.
  • 95QL becomes 95.5QL, which is +0.526%.

So this is actually far more useful at bad QL, and far less useful at good QL, than the patch notes indicate.

A better phrasing would probably be something like "10% closer to 100". It definitely does not gives "+10% QL bonus" as stated.

This applies to both sorts of QL bonuses, both the kind where the material the item is made from provides the bonus, and the kind where the tool being made of a certain material provides the bonus.

I would really hate to see people waste large quantities of moonmetal on their tools thinking that they can use it to churn out super high quality items, the way the harvesting rune does. That stuff is expensive.

The following rune description is also incorrect, or at least ambiguous:

  • it will increase usage speed (X%)

Like the above QL effects, it doesn't increase speed by X%. Instead, it does something like decreasing the difference between normal speed and minimum speed by 10%. I am not sure how to more clearly state this in the description, though.
