Animal Taming and skill gain with food types.

Recommended Posts

Im starting this thread as i have noticed differences in skill gain with food types.

It is solely what this thread is for.

If any of you noticed the same please post here :) , im told WU code doesnt have a effect on food types: [16:53:57] <??????> The only difference in difficulty is the creature, not food type.

Because of my high Tame level : i get this messages now and then:

[18:49:13] Venerable fat Fastfast 'fast' is already tame, so you don't learn anything new.
[18:49:21] Your taming does not seem to have any effect.

I have set a sound alert in Wurm assistant so i react as fast as possible and untame on the go thorugh manage animals,

without halting any tame action only when stamina runs out.

I have used Animal taming Affinity and numbers below is from today nutrition 85%

Taming a venerable Hell Horse:

200 chopped potato QL 27      0,002014
100 minced feline  QL 17-35    0,00969
100 feline QL 19,99                0,000359
100 beef QL 20,01                  0,001289

Yes the QL of the food effects the timer.  A high QL food a few secs, almost no skillgain at all.

Thats why i have tried with QL 20 ish food, when used QL 1 food was to slow , IMO.

High QL good to use if you want a fast taming, not for skillgain though.

i know lower stam bar helps  longer tame tamer helps skill tick

Lower stam bar helps by lengthening actions, yep.

Then you got animal difficulty, not only species but attribute, so a normal wolf will be easier taming than an angry wolf.

Then difficulty vs. level.  For example, a hardened wolf got me to lv40 (WO).  Had to upgrade to brown bear from there which got me to.. 60ish i think it was, before switching to a cave bug.  Then all that of course affected by the ql food you're using.

Then some species are just crankier than their difficulty... unicorns are just plain snobs.  Hell hounds tame easier at the same level imho.

Anyhoo, that got me to 70.  Long story short aim for something that's kiiiinda easy but not EASY to tame, what you practice taming on is gonna dictate your ql requirements food-wise.

Yes Creature type have their difficulty , the point is that i get different skill gains with SAME creature a Venerable Hell Horse but DIFFERENT food types.

Added that i used a hell horse on my first post.

And if you missed this aswell:

You guys are missing the point of this thread.

It is about testing and figuring out if different veggie/meats chopped or minced give more or less skill gains. Not types of creatures and differenet levels of stamina,we know about that.

Eeeee my bad, and yes you're absolutely correct on that one too.  Got distracted irl while doing my previous post.  Don't try garlic on unis, for one, it's easier to tame one with q50 grass than q70 garlics so to speak, and I have the hoof-shaped scars to back it up.  Points to certain species having their favorites.  The data point you're missing in your math is how many successes per 100 actions by the way, there's your next test (or bring your difficulty down to brown bear for less RNG factor).  Age is a factor too, btw so keep that in mind.

Not halting between taming actions I can fully confirm.  The first few actions that are REALLY fast are not really good exp, the more they slow down the better the exp.  With the stats on my specific toon, best gain vs. time was between 3/4 and 1/4 of the stamina bar (got a bit too slow after that for my personal tastes).

Wouldn't pay too much attention to WU code on this specific one, there you can reach 100 taming with a humble pig.

Yes well been thinking of that, imo i have so few fails so that may not give such a big difference.

Did a count on my last 100 tame actions with Beef meat.

73 - successes - You create a stronger bond with venerable fat Fastfast 'fast'.

18 - ignores - Venerable fat Fastfast 'fast' ignores your commands.

6 - Your taming does not seem to have any effect , i have a sound alert when this happens so i untame on the go without halting the taming.

To avoid taming without skillgain.

3 missing lol with info.

Today i used 100 minced beef because of the result i did 100 normal beef after.

Can be that the QL played a role here with the minced beef, or because of the small numbers this difference can occur.

100 minced beef QL 19 - 36 average QL 26 , Gained: 0,000854
69 - You create a stronger bond with venerable fat Fastfast 'fast'.
21 - Venerable fat Fastfast 'fast' ignores your commands.
6 - Venerable fat Fastfast 'fast' is already tame, so you don't learn anything new.

100 - Beef QL 20,01 ,  Gained : 0,001153
71 - You create a stronger bond with venerable fat Fastfast 'fast'.
18 - Venerable fat Fastfast 'fast' ignores your commands.
8 - Venerable fat Fastfast 'fast' is already tame, so you don't learn anything new.

Nutrition 86% , full food and water , Animal taming affinity and Soul strength used

Any ideas ?

Just to clarify, are you testing this while queuing up tames? Would it not be better to look at single ticks with a full stamina bar? As the stamina bar affects the timer and gain so significantly the difference is most likely successes and fails at varying stamina levels with a small amount due to Ql.

For example, most of your success with the normal beef could have been low stamina and the minced beef more success at higher stamina..

If I tame a deer with a grass at full stamina the gain is the same each time, so I imagine you could test different food that way.

If taming uses the typical formula to grant skill ticks, then this suggests that using different food types may result in different taming difficulties. Because we cannot explicitly see how "good" of a success you get like mining, the best way to demonstrate this is with a success/fail ratio. This will establish a relative difficulty between the tested foods and eliminate timer length as a variable.

Can you do a logsearch and count success/fails for the other foods you used?

If i can recall the order i been taming , else maybe better count from now and forward as you see already done on the last 300 tamings.

I'm afraid you nailed it, i did'nt think of this.

I briefly looked through the skill ticks and for me they been max 0,000038 , minimum 0,000015

For me

A perfect 100 successess can give max 0,0038 in skillgain, and lowest minimum  0,0015 .

So it most likely as you said the randomness when the skillticks comes and amount of it.

So with this not sure if there is more needed to say about it.

Did 100 tamings with lamb i will show all skillticks for taming in spoilers.

I have splitted them up so each spoiler is for 15 tamings , last was 10,  from full stamina until its gone.

1 interesting thing i did not get skillticks for every succesful attempt with this message: You create a stronger bond with venerable fat Fastfast 'fast'.

I have no clue if its intended.

Its intended that you don't get skill ticks for every success. It's same thing as ores having to be between ql 1-40 to give skillgain.

Thank you.

I guess most is covered here now and food types most likely not have a effect. As i suspected from start.

Thanks for all the input and ideas.

Hopefully this may help other tamers.
