Why nobody pvps in wurm.

Couldn't all involved parties just preserve some dignity and let this abomination die? If you really want to prevent people from ever considering to join Wurm PvP - keep going :s

Are we there yet?

Judging by how much they complain about us PvE'ers not coming over there and joining them on PvP...we've been there for a long time. Heck, even Rolf couldn't get us there and he sure busted his behind trying to coerce his player-base into his wished for play-style, even went so far as turning PvP on PvE servers on for a bit and losing even more players. Go ahead and flip that switch again. See how many more leave...

I'll join you in Minecraft pvp, if you join us in wurm pvp!

Would it even be considered fair though? I can bring you to an egg wars match with an account I already have for free to play with my group ( Our group is probably not even your cup of tea XD 2 pre-teens, 3 20ish yr olds, and 1 30something yr old). It will take less than 2 days to figure out if you like it or not. In wurm pvp, how long would you say it would take? And how much money is expected to come out of my wallet. I can barely afford premium due to college. My account also has 30ish or less body stats and not even 80+ fighting. I even use a spear so my shield skills are less than 5. Would i need to spend time grinding and money to remain premium until I'm able to have my character "roll" decent hits and feel like im doing something in a fight? If I get you an account for minecraft can you get me an account for PvP?

I'll tell one of the reasons that made me consider often pvp servers but that's not really for pvp and revolves more about the permission and restrictions: on pve there are areas clogged with huge deeded forests, fields other areas or what looks like abandoned carts, houses, boats or other items and at times you bump into some player corpse. You often have to walk away from the populated areas, at times that's quite a long walk before you are even allowed to do anything because it's deeded all around and you cannot do anything due to permissions.

You cannot attack or butcher an animal, pick sprouts or chop trees or other actions cause it's on someone's settlement. You also cannot loot items or somoene's corpse due to "permissions" and ownership. When i tried epic for a short time, i roamed around for a while then saw someone's cart free for the take and that's what i did, took it so i had a free one without having to build one from scratch. So at least on pvp let's say you can at least "recycle" the items and things you find around and put them to use since you are not restricted by some magic "permission" or ownership. That works both ways though, and someone may take or steal my belongings if i leave them around.

However -- one of the things i liked to do in Wurm was to get off village for fairly long hunting or exploring trips, see and learn about the locations behind that mountain or that hidden settlement in the forest or that temple in the cave, or take my boat and visit the other nearby servers. And often having to camp outside in the open or end up using someone's inn.

Some say on pvp you do all you can do pve plus more... no i doubt that's the case, there are pros and cons on how you play on both type of servers, If i go on chaos and try do that or take a sail on my knarr, i'm pretty sure i'd eventually end up being shot at, killed and stolen of my things. Maybe most enstablished players won't do that cause they already have all the knarrs and gear they want... but you can't speak on behalf of every single player on there and from my experience, if game allows to kill, steal and destroy someone's belongings some will just do that "because they can" and it's a pvp server after all so it's not like i could say much against it. Actually, the more i think about it more reinforces the conclusion how about i save myself the grief.

So no i cannot really take solo trips and in most cases i'd have to join someone's kingdoms if only to increase my safety. How things are being built are also affected by how the server works.

Basically this goes back to i personally don't pvp because i'm playing the game for other reasons.

Your points aren't wrong - if people spotted you out in the wild you would be attacked 100%

However, I will say that it's really unlikely you run into anyone. In my entire time of leveling my fight skill (so purely hunting and not looking for fights), I can only remember getting one 'enemy' in local and I went and killed them. As long as you stick to your own kingdom's territory, you'll be fine almost all the time.

In regards to sailing it would be REALLY unlikely that you run into people already in a boat. Most people will NOT respond quickly if you were to hit local because they aren't fast enough OR they think you are baiting for a trap. Paying attention to a map of settlements while sailing and avoiding coastal settlements is always a good course of action.

Chaos is not about solo play and never will be. The group aspect of it is what makes it fun and gives the game purpose - to anyone on the fence about PVP, take a look at the kingdoms out there and join one that will align with your playstyle the best. I think most people would be surprised how welcoming Chaos is, despite how loud we can be on the forums sometimes.

This is not true. We have escorted many freedomers to the white light after they run through the capital deeds area and trigger all our alarms. Those that answer our pms and identify themselves often get a free pass, or even an escort. There is no point in killing some random Freedomer. Its not what we are here for.

In fact, we recently had a group of Freedomers living at Hunter's Lodge. They got killef several times, sure, but once we realized who they were we always tried to leave their corpse behind untouched.

You cant expect not to get killed on a pvp server, but you wont also get killed 100% of the time. Just like everywhere else, there are players who are content in letting you be as long as your intentions arent hostile.

It's all good man don't worry about it. It'll get fixed in a few months after some color changes on freedom.  Maybe after summer break.

Can we remove the system that makes it very improbable of gaining an affinity in PvP yet?

(Also, some official release on kills/affinity?) :)

If you step back and look at Wurm as a business, why would they change anything? Players will still keep coming back and dumping loads of money on premium and not to mention personal investments which some take to thousands of dollars in characters and items. Once someone is invested they won’t go anywhere and will just wait it out for better days. If I’m managing this game I’m winning either way if I make changes or not, so why risk even more criticism and hate?

From a players perspective it’s almost like you’re being teased constantly with overhaul nods in the weekly update that keep you clinging on with hope that one day it’ll turn around. Weeks, months, hell years go by before you see anything remotely PvP related and it’ll just be a bandaid like before that will eventually fall off. Wurm PvP is in a state where it needs to be completely shut down and re-evaluated so Devs can come up with something and not create knee jerk reaction content that isn’t fully developed or functional. I would much rather see PvP be shut down and have a time table given to players on what is going to happen and where they plan to take it. Wurm player vs player servers are literally what a sandbox MMO is about, I feel sorry for new players who are getting the 10% treatment on PvP servers that just started out. Whoever decides what happens with Wurm PvP, the ball is in your court. There are plenty of good suggestions in this whirlpool thread. If ideas are lacking, I know the suggestions board has probably about 200 good ideas. It would be a shame to think you would let a loyal portion of players down by not supplying updates that are severely needed to the full experience of Wurm.

*end dodgy rant*

Honestly.... why I do not play on pvp is that I have not interest in pvp games... I prefer pve games fighting mobs etc...And it is one of the reasons why I came to wurm that it had pve servers... I actually do not understand why there is a pvp in freedom servers... I think they should be all in the epic servers but that is just me and maybe my lack of understanding because of non interest ... Also I do not think there is anything they could add or take away from Chaos to make me interesting in playing..  That is just my two cents.
