Some objects disappear from rendering at unusually low distances

Hi there,

 

I've noticed that some objects, for example kingdom flags and incomplete ships, disappear out of rendering view at an oddly low distance. I understand that objects do get culled from rendering to save resources, but an incomplete ship in particular is a very large object. (Smaller completed ships stay in scene at much further distances.) -- In the case of kingdom flags, even when completed they disappear at low range.

 

My graphics settings are, most which follow the recommended value as per the '?' hover, as follows:

 

  • Terrain detail: High
  • Tile detail: Dense
  • Sky detail: High
  • Cave detail: High
  • Shadow detail: Disabled
  • Shadow map size: Medium
  • Distant terrain: Enabled
  • Tree, item/creature, and structure render dist: Extreme
  • LoD: Enabled
  • LoD distance: Far
  • Contribution culling: Disabled

Is this all intentional, or have I missed a setting somewhere?

 

[Edit for science] Asked a friend if she had the same behaviour, confirmed she does. (I'm not sure what settings she uses though.)

I have noticed it also. If I have a line if wagons, some disappear before others when walking away. Happens with a lot if other items also.

Incomplete objects, regardless of size, gets clipped off to increase fps.

Same thing for huge objects like incomplete colossus etc.

Its all to do with render distance.

Different items are linked to different graphics settings.

That's fair enough, but I guess the flags on the building disappearing is unintended? That wouldn't really be a frame saving effort considering that if the flags were not on a building tile they get rendered from much greater distances.

I'd guess this is the least conservative available then as nearly all of my graphics settings are on really very high indeed. :)
