Archaeology / Restoration Collection Thread - What neat thing have you found?

Recommended Posts

So I hate to say it but so far this archaeology and restoration is very disappointing. I don't think skills should be so RNG dependent, the nerf to masks, and the statues taking so many isn't fun. Well it makes me less inclined to spend days for RNG to work. It never does for me. You should have higher chances to get more fragments the higher you level it, I'm not seeing it though.

My 2 cents.

Some of the more strange things i have restored:

[13:32:17] A hard, sharp piece of rock fastened to a short shaft.

[13:32:17] A single copper rune of Magranon has been attached to it, so it will have a higher chance to be successfully improved (5%) and increase the chance of increasing rarity when improved (5%)

In case you have never seen one of these, it's a crude axe.

[13:38:18] A one step long wooden branch that could be used to create a shaft. It is made from birchwood.

[13:38:18] Bloodthirst has been cast on it, so it will do more damage the more you hit players. [1]

I think i will keep this one

The biggest dissapoitment for me is when i find runned or rare tool/weapon head. If you try to put it on handle or shaft to make actually functional item it loses rune and rarity which sucks :( So far i have bunch of useless axe, rake, pickaxe, etc. heads with cool runes on them which i realy have no ide for...

At this point and with many reaching higher levels of skill, I think we could do with a "Fragment Exchange" thread where people could post their desire to exchange fragments they have discovered. With the need for 93 pieces per statue and 10 pieces for a mask (which are even harder to come by), I would not be opposed to exchanging the fragments i have, for the same number of fragments somebody else has and concentrate on restoring just 1 statue. Thoughts on that?

It has been vastly disappointing so far, only that one piece of the Sword of Magranon

A way to remove runes would be cool - at least that way you'd be able to salvage them and place them on something useful

The idea is that you are getting bits and pieces.. some with weird enchants left, some with useless runes on them.. Not all of them are supposed to be useful..

I don't want to see all the statues and masks pop up in trade channel 2-3 weeks after the skill was released.. i want them to be rare.. so I don't mind the weird items and the low statue and mask fragment rng... I thought the entire point of wurm is not to have instant gratification :)

the question is this

is the prize just mask's and statues?

if so is it worth it then, its a lot of time to put in

The problem is they're to rare and it's at the point where a lot of people are not enjoying it so they stop working on the skill.

Balance is important obviously, but I feel like the junk is over taking it. If i'm level 50 or 70, I should feel like every level I get, I should see more rare fragments but right now it's just another foraging skill with RNG.

Honestly?  I've found a couple of useful things (and of course I can now get ores by myself!); but largely I just have a stack of shards that I will glue together for skill at some point.

I'm ok with this.  The idea is that this will force you to do this magical thing called "trade" with other people for the shards you want.

well for the spell casts the only one worthwhile is BT if its actually on a weapon, the rest of the spells are worthless at 1 power

runes are nice, but so random most likely you will find the wrong rune on a tool or weapon so not much point in that either

so essentially the whole thing is a waste of time?

i do enjoy the part about seeing old deeds and the info to go with them, if only there was a journal to keep track of all that interesting stuff

If you feel like your time is wasted, go do something else; if you derived enjoyment from spending the time, then the time wasn't wasted.

[13:22:10] A small fragment from a statue of worg. You think you could recreate the statue of worg if you had a bit more material. This is a supreme example of the item, with fine details and slick design. Ql: 21.518316, Dam: 0.0.

[00:10:23] A clay flowerpot hardened by fire.

[00:10:23] A single copper rune of Magranon has been attached to it, so it will have a higher chance to be successfully improved (5%) and increase the chance of increasing rarity when improved (5%)

Teach me how to imp it! :P

So far i have 12 statue frags. Too bad they will decay before I can finish one.

Only solution I have seen is a magic chest. If the point was to drive sales of them, well, job well done.

(yes, they decay on your person)

So storage alts don't work for storing these?

So the entire point is selling magic chests for the storage of mask and statue frags, as nothing else is worth anything other than grinding skill on for finding more pieces to grind skill on.

I have quite a lot of statue fragments stored on an alt and they have not received any decay so far.

Yes, that must be the whole point.  In fact, the entire implementation of runes was just an enabler for the archeology update, all so that CC can sell more magic chests.  And wagoners and highways were only implemented so that people could get to good dig sites quicker, so that archeology, for more magic chests.  Oh, and rifts - those were only added to allow for runes, and thus more magic chests.  Gosh, and they would have gotten away with it too, if hadn't been for you pesky kids.
