Are nogumps supposed to have a ranged attack?

Just got killed by one at a distance of many tiles, after first getting targeted by it in melee. It was pinned down by guards, so it wasn't chasing me when it killed me.

 

If it -does- have a legitimate ranged attack, it never seems to use it until after targeting and damaging you in melee. (It took him three hits to kill me, two of which were ranged.)

I had this happen to one of my characters a few weeks ago.  NG engaged with Tower guards, me running away still taking significant damage LOF and healing kept me alive long enough for the guards to finish killing the NG.  I was well over 5 tiles away when taking damage, at approx. 15 tiles when healing and I believe I was still taking damage.  Be interesting to look at your combat log.  Should have looked at mine when it happened.

It happens when you're stunned.  It makes it think it's still in combat so you're just gambling if you get bashed again before being stunned wears off, only on repeat
