Be sure to also only use the stable launcher, as unstable is not used anymore

I debated clicking the unstable or stable launcher.  In the end, after hours of weighing the pros and cons, I chose wrong.

The Dev trap was laid well then. Yet I see you did not mention which was the wrong choice. Very clever.

can someone provide the location for the Legacy client, please?

It's pretty much a given I will need it at some point when 'stable' like to freeze me for 5 minutes at a time

Ok, so we are now using unstable as default ... not a nice move from the devs lol

The rendering in the new client has potential, it does look good as long as you don't move around and see all the hundreds of glitches...

i was just going to complain about the high memory usage, thanks.

edit: lowmem client still uses a lot even with everything on low settings - before update 500mb - now alt accounts use 1gig. can you optimize anymore?

Code Club is in a tough balancing act right now.  They have a game that is over 10 years old, so there are many players that have come along for the ride over those many years.  Old games usually allow the players to use old PCs to play at decent quality.  However, Wurm must evolve or possibly die out, like many other old game titles have done, when aging past the decade mark.  It means graphics upgrades and those generally require more horse power to run.  If they are forced to maintain a game client that is playable on older PCs, running many clients, they won't be able to evolve and it is game over.  They have been doing a phenomenal job of enhancing the game over the last couple years, so now it is our job to upgrade our equipment to keep up with them.

I can no longer run private sermon groups, with 35 clients on a single laptop.  It was a freakish thing to be able to do.  Most new game releases are really tough to run more than a single client.  Wurm with the new client still allows the ability to run several clients, if using lower settings, or 1-2 clients on really nice settings.  It seems a pretty decent situation overall.  True, I miss the ability to drive a full knarr, with all the clients on and decent settings, but I think I like playing my main solo a whole lot more now, with these enhanced graphics.  Things feel considerably more real now - graphics improvements and all the new additions to the game content.

Most PCs come with 8 or 16MB now.  Some 32 or more.  With 8MB, you can get several clients running on low settings.  At 16MB, I'm having no trouble running 6-8 on low settings, with one on medium, to better enjoy the scenery.  I do use smaller client windows though.  Just big enough to handle a full ingame map and not feel too cramped when opening up the craft window, plus a few containers.

These are my lower quality client settings if you are curious:

With 8MB, you can get several clients running on low settings.

I'd assume you mean 8gb ;) but yeah, I have 8gb, and using one good main settings and the rest slightly less than good settings I've safely ran 7 accounts total.  It's really not awful when you can set the background fps to 5 and just minimize them.  could have ran more alts still and maybe even more with crappy settings

I'm showing my age.  My first PC I built was a whopping 16MB of RAM and all my friends were jealous.

The legacy client is given to those who have reported serious issues in which cannot be resolved. Mostly low end systems that physically cannot run the stable client.

If you have an issue that makes the stable or low memory client literally unplayable, as in not able to launch, post the report and samool will identify if it's necessary.

It's not something that will be supported for long, and will be phased out when a major client change occurs, so it's not to be used to avoid the stable client. Report your issues, fiddle with settings, and make sure to keep your drivers and java correct and up to date.
