Im not sure, for anything but hunting it's a skill roll against the relevant skill (digging, mining, fishing), for hunting it's a skill roll against a creature's weaponless fighting. The average FS of everybody involved in the kill is also a factor, because we wanted to work against deathcarts with a bunch of low FS alts farming maps very well. Skill rolls are made with the difficulty in the properties file, at the end of which is a large list of example values and average rolls for difficulty and skill levels. That's "average" with WurmRNG ;)

This happens also if i create maps with the ebony wand, all are QL 1, i have changed nothing and at the dirst day i got always different maps

this is awesome, thank you for this feature :)

But please explain me what the value means maxTreasureDistance=2147483647

How can i count this in tiles?

Maps created with the ebony wand are of a QL equal to the wand's AuxData, and of random QL if the AuxData is 0, as mentioned in the spoiler tag of the OP. Everything else would probably be down to the skill roll and the difficulty of it.

2.1 billion is just the largest value possible for the Integer datatype. Setting the max to that would ensure that there's virtually no upper limit to how far it can be away, since WU maps will never be that big. If you want new treasure be at most 1024 tiles away from the player, you'd set it to 1024. That reminds me though, I guess it'd be enough if it's either on the x OR y coordinate, instead of both. Currently it's both X and Y need to be a certain distance away. <_<

It's strongly recommended to update to 1.1.3 at your earliest convenience, as it fixes an exploitable behaviour that will be outlined on the forums in the coming days. Keeping your server log files around is also a good idea, if you'd like to take retrospective actions against exploiters.

Download: https://github.com/dmon82/TreasureHunting/releases/tag/1.1.3

  • Don't overwrite your .properties file to keep your current custom settings.
  • Fixed an exploitable behaviour, more details soon.
  • Added surface mining and tunneling for having a chance to find maps, with a separately configurable chance, because it's faster than cave wall mining. To change the default, paste the following in your properties file:
  Reveal hidden contents

# 1 in N chance for finding a treasuremap while surface mining.
#
# [default: 10000, min: 1, max: 2147483647]
mapSurfaceMiningChance=10000

  • Added the option to specify min and max distances from players to treasures for newly found map. To change the default, paste the following in your properties file:
  Hide contents

# The minimum distance that a treasure needs to be away from
# the player who finds it, or the creature that has been slain
# while hunting.
#
# Set this lower than the max distance, and not too large, or
# map creations might fail due to not finding a random spot.
#
# This option was added in version 1.1.3.
#
# [default: 0]
minTreasureDistance=0

# The maximum distance that a treasure is allowed to be away
# from the player who finds it, or the creature that has been
# slain while hunting.
#
# Set this greater than the min distance, and not too low, or
# map creations might fail due to not finding a suitable spot.
#
# This option was added in version 1.1.3.
#
# [default: 2147683647]
maxTreasureDistance=2147483647

  • Changed the way that bonus sleep powder is calculated to simply (QL / 10) * sleepPowderMultiplier, or 0 to only provide a base number of powders, to remove the overcomplexification.
  Reveal hidden contents

# The amount of more possible pieces of sleep powder,
# that is (QL / 10) * sleepPowderMultiplier.
#
# With a multiplier of 1.0 and a map QL of 90, you will get
# a random amount of (90 / 10) * 1 = [0 to 8] sleep powder.
#
# [default: 1.0, min: 0.0, max 100.0]
sleepPowderMultiplier=1.0

  • Fixed some spelling errors in the default properties file.
  • Ironed out some internal code.

You are simply the best....  ;)
Thanks for your great work.

I cant figure out what im doing wrong here.
i want it to drop a chest on the same spot where i am. i have disabled all reasons for creating a chest exept for hunting. i got 0 in min tiles and 5 in max but gets : [12:29:59] Treasuremap creation failed, probably couldn't find a suitable spot within 100 tries. Try again.
If i make max to 25 it will drop the chest as the normal hunt mod

The mod picks 2 randomized numbers as x and y coordinates from the map size, minus a padding to not get close to the server border. It's very unlikely that the two random numbers are within 5 tiles of a spot, that's why it stops trying. And if it had picked a spot close enough, it must fulfill all the other criteria as well (not in water, lava, village, holy zone, flat enough, et cetera). It's just too small of a distance to be viable in the way the location is trying to be determined.

Deployed the latest update.  Any map, pre or post update will guide you to the x-marks-the-spot location just fine, but when attempting to dig using the shovel on the map, generates a "you are too far away" message.

Damn. is it not somehow possible to config the mod so it gives you a chance to spawn a chest og the same tile as you stand on  ?

I'm having the same issue as Ikeprof.  Any of the maps will lead you to the spot but when you dig for the treasure it says it's too far away.  It was working fine before I did the update.  My min distance is 0 and my max distance is 2147483647.  Could this somehow be affecting it?

atm you could spawn a map and teleport to the maps target.

Same for us, the map leads to the spot, but then when trying to dig it says too far away, I even created a map on the spot to give to the player as a replacement, but even a newly created map does the same thing now :/

Regarding, "You're too far away" error. The following method uses a full position, not tile index (which is full position / 4 and floor rounded).

creature.isWithinTileDistanceTo(x, y, z, maxdistance)

If you use 1 for maxDistance, it will be ~ 1 meter.  I'd recommend using 6 for 6 meters or about 1.5 tiles.

But what if we want to use the whole map like the previous version did?  I can revert back but then I lose the surface mining feature.

@AsperisI'm not sure what your talking about. I've never actually used this mod. I just looked at the code and noticed a potential issue. The bit of code I mentioned wasn't in the mod if I look at commits for older version.

Ah ok didn't realize you were replying about the code.  Thought you were telling us to plug those numbers into the properties file.  I'd like to use my whole map 4096 x 4096 to spawn the treasure maps/chests and not just have them spawn 6 x 6 tiles away.  Which is why I have 0 as the min distance and the max is 2147483647.

You can download a fixed .jar here - I removed the range check so it shouldn't give you an issue anymore. Temporary solution until the mod author updates.

I'm having a problem. I got a treasure map, arrived at the spot and got the message "You are practically standing on the marked spot!". It's on dirt so I dig with my shovel and I get no message and only dirt, am I missing something?

I use better digging by Bdew, maybe that is messing it up?

edit: with better digging disabled the result is the same

edit2: here is my config:

#
# 5:11,23,58
# ^ Each creature in this group has a weight of 5.

# Modifies the chance for a rare item to become supreme instead.
# By default, a player has a 1 in 3600 chance to open a 20 seconds
# long rarity window (about once per hour). A single action done
# within that window, which can be extended by deed bonus, will
# cause a moment of inspiration.
#
# Ignoring the fact that the rarity system was nerfed, to an additional
# chance of 1 in 4 of the action actually succeeding, that's statisticly
# a 1 in 180 (or 0.56 %) chance.
#
# We use that chance to open a rarity window of 1 second, and then
# it's an additional 1 in 10000 (or 0.01 %) chance to become fantastic.
#
# If it's not fantastic, it's a 1 in 100 (or 1 %) chance to be supreme.
#
# Otherwise it's a 1 in 2 (or 50 %) chance to be at least rare.

# Here's a small rundown of skill checks used when treasure maps are
# created, and a skill check is involved. Maybe this will help you to
# find the right map base difficulty that you are personally looking
# for on your server.
#
# Keep in mind that the base difficulty is reduced by skill levels
# and tool QL (mining, digging, fishing rod, et cetera) by 1/10th
# of their value, and by 5 for each rarity level of the tool. Or the
# average "Fighting" skill of the players that killed a creature
# respectively.
#
# If the average FS of a group of players is 60, and the base map
# difficulty was 50, it would reduce the difficuly by 60 % of the
# difference between base map difficulty, and the minimum difficuly
# (which is 4).
#
# Difficulty = (50 - 4) * 60 % = 27.6.
#
# The skill check is then performed against the "Weaponless fighting"
# skill of the killed creature (because they don't usually have any
# other skills).

# Terminology:
#   Boolean values can be "true" or "false".
#   Whenever "n" or "N" is mentioned, it means "a number".
#   Options using "whole" numbers (natural), can't have decimals.
#   Only options that use decimal points (real number) can use them.
#   Options that have a colon (:), are groups of numbers

#
# Option values that are invalid (A number where you should
#  use a boolean, will be ignored. The default value will
