unstable client fps hiccups

Seems about every 6-8 seconds or so I get a massive fps drop of about 40-60fps making the game completely unplayable with the unstable client. Happens whether moving or standing still with no actions going on in the background, it also starts to happen within 1-2 minutes of the client being opened.

 

occurs with default settings and also custom settings, full screen and windowed full screen

i've got the most recent 64bit java, graphics updates, burn tests says my cpu is fine, memory is fine, both gpus are fine.

 

windows 10

i7-5820k 

64gb ddr4 mem

two 980ti's 6gb each

ssds

etc

 

any ideas? i know many others that want to use the unstable get this same problem, but i dont know if its been reported or not. If someone knows of another thread please let me know so i can add my info to that one

edit: also my cores are unparked, seen this suggested in another thread somewhere but it didnt work for me

How much memory is the java process using when launched and ingame? You can find this via the task manager

Between 2 to 3GB

 

oh, just to clarify this isn't a new issue for me, its been like this for months ( as well as the rest of the people I know that have had it)

it has been the same for me, however did you try using it since last night? the update has removed all those fps hiccup issues for me.

yeah currently using it, still having them unfortunately. Still doing things on my end to try and fix it, but haven't yet

after some talk i was told that "Your client allocates too little memory and it doesn't resize properly"

 

seems after every memory refresh i lag, anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or am i doomed

if this is the client thats going to be replacing the old one, i can't play until this is fixed because im constantly getting thrown over ledges  because of lag

Experiencing the same problem with the unstable client, default client runs happy on high settings but unstable client even on lower settings utilises a WHOLE lot more cpu % and is virtually unplayable with freezes every 6-8 seconds :unsure:

interesting.  I've always had the unstable use less CPU, but lots more RAM than the stable, since returning about 3 months ago, but I tend to run skinny settings for multi client play.  Stable still wins hands down for running 5+ clients, because of the Unstable RAM hogging.

Not to hijack but will also post in this thread since it seems there are a few affected.  Same issue - game runs beautifully with the exception of 'hitches' in FPS where the screen freezes for half a second (feels a lot like the old travel lag from a few years ago) then everything is fine again - memory usage does not increase noticeably.  Since last patch this seems to be happening more frequently for me (up to a few times a minute now, was every minute or so previously).  Details in spoilers.

I don't have this, but the mayor of my village still does.  After about 5 minutes of playing he has to log out because the 'hiccups' make it unplayable. Next time he is online I'll ask him to post some logs.

Bumping this with new info - I paid attention to it and can reliably see a ~20 ± 2 FPS drop every 8 seconds since last patch, at least for the first 30 minutes that the client is opened for.  Am hoping the timing helps identify the issue.

nah this is exactly whats happening to me, samool had me do some debug testing and its every time the client needs to increase its max available memory it lags

Did the todays update help?

 

Also, as this is the reason of it for the most times we've managed to troubleshoot the same issue, make sure that Java version that Wurm uses is 64bit (on Windows):

  • Go into the Task Manager, Details/Processes tab
  • See if the Java Web Launcher/Wurm Online/jp2launcher.exe has (32 bit) or *32bit next to it
  • To double-check right-click the process, use Open file location and see if the location isn't within Program Files (x86)

I used it as an excuse to upgrade mobo/ram on that PC so I no longer have this issue :mellow:  I did that prior to the most recent update so I cannot provide any information on that, just wanted to follow up.  

 

For troubleshooting's sake, I was using 64bit java with old hardware when I had this problem.

 

Best of luck in getting this resolved, it made the game very difficult to enjoy playing, and I LOVE this game.
