Book Making

Recommended Posts

Since we can make an empty almanac and write on paper was thinking about the addition of just normal empty books that we can write in for notes, stories, treasure hunts, etc.

Same concept as almanac, but make the book so we can title it (rename) and then put paper in it to write on.  Would give little more worth to paper making skill also.  Keep the part were we can make folders and we can use that for chapters.

Can go even further and let us put books in a bookcase.  How about if you have very high paper making skill (80+) then can copy books.

+1 Like this idea. would be cool to make a server-wide library that people can visit and read the various tales of the server history.

I honestly would go to public wurm libraries, to read what people put there.

That would be cool.  Maybe that can help shape the Lore in Wurm Online.

If devs want to have fun with it they can add their Valrei International forum posts as pages in a library book at a starter town for history.  Maybe have a book full of all the bug fixes at starter towns also.  Something to add content to the library idea.

This can help bring a lot of the forum posts in the game.  Want skill grinding tips?  Go check out Library at Linton and get the info you need.

This would be amazing! I'd grind up papyrusmaking skill just to write stories xD

So many good wurm related novels could be created.. works such as...

Bloodmaster & Kix the untold love story

Hexd's how to cook good guide

How to harvest salt by Threap

Stik's guide to dirt wall contrustion

Mclovin ###### up & a sequal called Mclovin ###### up again

I'd literally make my own library for fun. So many funny stories to write about.

@TradingAltJukimo's "Get Good" book.
Would contain no actual information, just 100 pages that say "Get Good" in different fonts.

Some really cool ideas here.  Valrei International and starter town libraries would indeed be very cool, as Nicedreams suggested.

Here's an idea for the process of book making.

Start similar an almanac, 1 leather strips + string = a Blank Book.

AcmVhJO.png

After that, every tile you want to add a chapter, use string on the book -> add chapter. Every time you want to add a new page (which holds 1 inscribed sheet) use string on the chapter it will be added to.

And finally, to bind the book, use leather strip on the blank book.

At this point any empty page slots vanish, and the book becomes a unique creation that is titled at that point.

To copy a book, create a blank book, activate it, right click on the book you want to copy and select copy. This turns the blank book into "Copy of <book title> with stages equal to the number of pages the book had.

Each stage is the same, you need the target book, paper and string in your inventory. Activate a reed pen filled with ink, right click on the copy and -> copy page. If you succeed the paper, string and ink are consumed and the stage is finished. When all stages are completed, you have an exact copy of the original.

I like this idea and this topic with very creative thoughts and examples presented, very good work guys! :) I truly hope this will be implemented as one of the features to the game, would give lore and paper makers a whole new aspect to work with.

I'd love this to come together with increased length limit for the text a piece of papyrus can hold.

Making word documents for every work order and note I need to write is annoying, give us notebooks.

A Journal would be cool -- would require that players could inscribe individual blank pages within a ready-made book.

I'm drinking and could not make my brain focus on the above, but I'm pretty sure it is a fantastic idea!

I want to write the tale of how I started a new character on Xanadu and decided I must live on the highest, most central place in the Wurm universe.  One of the hardest, yet most fun things I've ever done in an online game.

Some early books, aside from scrolls and scroll cases, were basically just boxes containing loose leaf pages.

Then various binding techniques with glue and string. Metal rods and rings.

Personally Id recommend a new skill for this, Scribe or Calligraphy.

And the uses can be more than just aesthetics: Temp skill gain bonuses from some kind of Master/apprentice teaching/learning system, especially at low skill levels. Some kind of knowledge system akin to Black Desert's for gaining bonuses in killing various critters and their general anatomies (Murder X For Dummies). Healing bonuses as well far as the anatomy thing goes. Porn (heh I know humans too well). And just scribbling down w/e notes when it can be accessed ingame more easily than one's notes in RL.
