I'd get into musical instruments even if we're stuck playing specific melodies.  Made a post a loooong time ago about them.  +1

I like the idea of mining helmets, or maybe not even mining helmets but simply a modification you could apply to your lantern to make it more directional light rather than area illumination. Perhaps it would require some sort of glass lens or a metal mirror to direct the light forward. Would be especially helpful when riding a cart/wagon or horse at night. Headlights!

Woodwind, brass, percussion... I would love instruments. even though i have never played one in real life. A UI to make a specific song like animal crossing's (but wurmified and longer) would make my day. save songs and initiate them at an event. Right click the musician to listen or the musician could invite everybody in a certain radius, 20 minute cool down on asking everybody. "Link" with other musicians to initiate together, make an orchestra!!! No music skill involved, let us have fun for once without sitting still improving/creating for hours. And even write music note on paper and sell songs to other players. That would be a lovely feature... Well done dreaming, Time to sit infront of a forge improving stuff for 3 hours.

Wurm is too much of a hermit game to make good use of anything that brings people closer. Instruments would be used for a week after being implemented and then they'd be put back in their corners so we can continue to grind. Unless some action is taken to make community and social interactions an importance - instruments won't be too useful.

One way would be to implement (along with food and water needs) a need of socialisation. As in, not interacting with other people every once in a while will slowly burden you with different penalties. However, the community of Wurm is not big on huge changes (even though the cooking overhaul set in quite nicely). For a fact roadside inns and taverns would start being used by neighbouring hermits and villages and we'd maybe have bar fights. That, and alcohol usage and sales would go up which is always good for economy.

In short: we can't have nice things because big changes aren't welcome and small changes make no sense to occur without the big ones.

I, for one, believe that implementing a need for socialisation and interactions would liven up the lower grade trade and economy. We all know that you practically can't make a living as non-prem anymore (thank you runes and stuff).

EDIT: I went a little off-topic, but it's just my frustration with the every-day economy dying and luxury grade economy being the only one left.

You live in Xanadu... I don't blame you for hermiting lol. but the music idea would work very well for moments like impalong, unique slayings, sermons, and rifts (right before it). There are also deeds that have a good amount of people on regularly that may be interested. If the songs can be played while doing other actions (cause wogic) then it could be just to hear your own song while imping instead of the music in wurm that is terribly not related to the game.. as least i thought that.

+1 for instruments, would be fun for the impalongs to have bands playing. Lord of the rings online has music festivals with their instruments.

No real opinion on the mining helmet, but I don't mind.

+1.

playing music would be something nice to do. and if you cant play and work at the same time, i'm pretty sure some priests could double as musicians while the main works. ;)

as a hermit myself...part of my dont like the idea, but part of me also wish we had more things to do together.

maybe not a 'give negative effect if not seen anyone' but more a 'when meeting a friend get a small buff' type? like cooking affinities perhaps?

and say you are fighting a critter, the fact you know someone is nearby and could help if called upon would give a boost to confidence. see how new and low lvl comabt players behave when you have a gard tower or not.

Like in real life, music helps people over come things ,motivates people and even make work a better place xd.dont know about it with the buffs ,but i guess it could stimulate other players to lower fail chance while imping or reduce the timers while crafting/cooking.
