Tool to measure slopes in mines

Recommended Posts

1. Player stands on the mine tile and activate the tool (could be new tool or just dioptra)

2. He can right click tile floor or ceiling and click MEASURE

3. He gets a messages:

  • XX corner is lowest one (where XX could be NE/NW/SE/SW)
  • XX corner is X slopes higher then the lowest one (where XX could be NE/NW/SE/SW and X will be number of slopes)
  • XX corner is X slopes higher then the lowest one (where XX could be NE/NW/SE/SW and X will be number of slopes)
  • XX corner is X slopes higher then the lowest one (where XX could be NE/NW/SE/SW and X will be number of slopes)

example:

  • NE corner is lowest one
  • NW corner is 10 slopes higher then the lowest one
  • SE corner is 15 slopes higher then the lowest one
  • SW corner is 5 slopes higher then the lowest one

for some corners on the same level:

  • NE corner is lowest one
  • NW corner is lowest one
  • SE corner is 15 slopes higher then the lowest one
  • SW corner is 5 slopes higher then the lowest one

what if i tell you dioptra already give the height when you use survey? :D

Not that efficient though, depending on where you stand you can be off by one dirt or two, real slopes in mines would be a game changer

Yeah, that's why I suggested dioptra : )

I think, server has all the data needed (slope values on every corner of the mine tile), so it shouldn't be hard for the devs to implement.

Assuming, that this data is used while using leveling in mines etc.

Yes please !!!!!

Wouldnt it be simple to just add tile tile borders and slopes inside mines like there are outside ?

I think that there are some limitations right now in the engine or it just rquire a lot of work, couse even now, when buildings can be build in the mines, they require to build floors, wich have tile borders.

Why not just add it to the function of a pickaxe instead of adding another tool to carry.

Good idea.

I think this could be bypassed if we could set ramps or slopes to mine to with good mining skills?

mine down -->

or

mine up -->

  • 5 slope
  • 10 slope
  • 15 slope
  • 20 slope

It could be done to reward the high level diggers and miners.

And if you Survey the tile you could get an idea of all the angles on it?

trouble is, we need to get rid of the randomness tied to any mined out tiles first. any corners mined kinda have a +/-3 potential slope deviation, meaning if you actually want to do something decent, you need to flatten things out and count the mining actions you do.

On a note relative to the rest of the suggestion, having a way to determine the ceiling height would be nice to have as well.

+1 to seeing slope in mines.   -1 to needing a tool for it.

To see slopes You need borders. That probably would require of change whole underground system.

Not necessarily. The height data is present in the client so a tool could measure the slopes on the border which is the closest to you. Would be more burden that way than on the surface but still would be much better than the current situation where we mostly evaluate using our eyes only.
