Looking for advice/deed redesigns (seriously need help)

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I made this thread in the main section. It's been near a month and no one has responded. Pretty discouraging. Anyway, I've gotten a suggestion to try again in this screenshot section.

Took a lot of pictures of my deed. Please go over them and help me to make it look better (if you wish to). I tried my best to redesign on my own, but areas of it look so... empty, yet I don't know what I need to put and where.

What I want to see in a redesign;

1. A "life in the woods but on a hill" theme.

2. Nice views of the NW ocean of Indy.

3. Some love to be done to the boat docks. That area is the most 'empty' feeling.

4. A place for a farm, and my three horses (with room to expand).

5. A way to make the main and side ramps, not look so boring. I thought the alternating slab/cobble pattern would be cool, but I guess it's showing it's age now.

6. A place to store my carts, and a place where I can sort through my items via coffins (tools go here, and other misc stuff).

7. I want the main deed area to look.. "wow".

8. I'm not looking for HUGE buildings, as I have no need for something so big. 3x3 or 4x3 at the most, please.

9. I prefer to build with Wood, but I -can- build with Stone (39.61 Masonry). Though my Carpentry is 66.38.

Here's the many, many screenshots I took (hosted by my website);

Lastly, here is my latest redesign using DeedPlanner. I have to upload it through Pastebin as I can't make the actual '.MAP' file work as a download. If you have DeedPlanner and wish to help, copy the link, go to DeedPlanner and paste the link when go to Load, and it'll load up the design.

http://pastebin.com/LG9fWGzU

Now has no trees, no labels, and has the deed size border in a black box (sorry for not having the border before).

And here's a blank version, by request. Has no trees, no walls, no buildings, no labels, and has the deed size border;

Thanks in advance. Sorry for so many screenshots. One last note, saying "you can do this and this" isn't really helpful. I need to be visually shown what you're talking about.

Lastly, the prepared spot behind the marble horse statue is being reserved for my friend's house (if he ever gets on and works on it). He can only do up to a 2x3 (as he's a non-prem). If you can, please factor in this to the redesign.

Main Pastebin link updated, also added blank version.

Heya Benie!

Do you think you could go for a hillside town instead of the flatraised area? I think it could be making the place much more natural and could even go about a medieval feeling.

I think about something like a place we own: Kalambaka on Xanadu (S15).

Or if you plan to keep the raised area maybe a seaside castle / fortress (that would go much more for stone though). (An unfinished example may be Kalami on Deliverance SE corner, again I'm happy to show that place).

The biggest constraint is the extensive clay though (at least I don't like to look of it myself), which can be converted to dirt but really a lot of work.

I'm not an architect myself but have one called Annyil sitting at the next computer here - can you export a fresh DeedPlanner plan from the token and put it up somewhere zipped up for a start?

It's a difficult location with the steep slopes, and the big clay area. I've added some of the things you mentioned, a docks/harbourmaster building for storage, a more impressive ramp with colossus for a big impression, and changed the sand tiles to grass to give a more wooded feel.

Hope this gives some inspiration.

I'll work on some ideas for you over the next few days. I wish I'd seen your initial post; deed planning is one of my favorite things to do. :)

Thanks for the responses. Can't wait to see what you guys can do. As for that ugly clay mound infront of my deed, I really, really wish I could remove it. I could do so...so much more with this place if it was gone. My mind.. UGH. I want it to go *poof*! -_-

I can possibly do it, but without knowing where the Rock layer is (and literally changing this side of Indy without too much land-scarring(aka keeping some Clay tiles left for anyone that needs it)).. yeah.

Almost gives me that itch to wanna move away from this. Tried to look for any medium-sized flat areas near the ocean (here on Indy), but they've already been taken.

Anyway, might as well just work around it for the time being (until I can afford enough of that transmutation potion or whatever and turn that mound into dirt).

Just FYI, you can sort of find rock layer depth with Mole Senses. It's a Magranon spell, but can also be performed through runes.

Just offhand I can tell u a couple things to think about-

1. I know people go crazy over cutting Oak trees down-but I think its blocking the view-cut it down and all the rest of the random trees and bushes

2. might think of doing something with the sand walls-maybe go with wood planking or slate or something else available

3.If u can-maybe try to even out the ramps to match-balance goes a long way:)

4.the docks-maybe keep the road to the docks but have the docks themselves to be plank-with maybe some low rope fences

5.maybe use the clay to your advantage-build up on some of it and make a public clay area

just a couple ideas-I am constantly redoing this or that-I think when someone says "my deed is perfect-i have it just the way I want it-it is done"is probably time for them to start looking for another game-so have fun changing back and forth and there will be even more options later when u have more skill:D

Clay can be removed but it IS painful. Also can be dug underwater (also pain but less and at least yields a ton of clay and body stats ;p for you) so shallow drafz ships can use it as docks.

If you are not fully locking to the actual spot I doubt all coastline is really taken... so many abandoned places nowadays even in the north ....

@Jaz, I've looked on the North side of the server. Not really much available  I know there's this high flatraised area overlooking the ocean(1/4 the distance before reaching the Northern Sea Pass), but there's a boat there (so I assume someone's living up there).

As for the removal of clay, I was told it would go down one if you dig at a corner for 50 times (yet it never happened(I counted)). The only option I have is to Level it into the ocean (which you need 70 Digging, thankfully I have 73).

@Skyfalls

1. The thing is, cutting them down will eventually make them grow back like weeds. And besides, a few trees overlooking the view actually looks kind of pretty.

2. Nice idea. I might consider it. Yet I also don't want too much of a "concrete jungle" feel. Remember, I'm going for a natural look.

3. What do you mean of "evening out the ramps"? Please explain in more detail.

4. Hmm. That's a pretty good idea. Would give a purpose to start working on Ropemaking. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

5. Techinically the clay is already for public use (at least the areas outside of my deed border).

@zigozag

I guess I would need a Priest for that. I'll think about it. Was hoping there was a small thing like a rod that you could jam into the ground and if it pings Rock, that's the height of the layer.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming. :)

EDIT: Here. Here's a completely clean version of the deed. No objects. No walls. Nothing(there was a few trees I couldn't remove as they were past the borders of DeedPlanner). I've also added a black box which marks the deed border (and will be adding this and an updated Pastebin with the deed border to the OP). Good luck. ;)

Things I left;

1. The guard tower (as it cannot be pushed).

2. Red boxes (it marks the center of the main deed).

3. All labels.

I've also added a black border which marks the current deed size. I'll also be adding the border and removing the la

evening out the ramps=mirror image of each other-1 tile wide on one side-2 tiles on the other-always looks better and shows the builder was thoughtful and put a lot of work in imo:)

@SkyfallsBelieve it or not, but this is how I found the deed in mid-2010 (except without the alternating Cobble/Slab). The only difference is the Side Ramp connected to the landing that goes to the mine. I fixed it where it would just go down and connect to the Main Ramp.

Also, no offense, but I don't see how that would help. Why would I need to make the Main Ramp the Side Ramp, and the Side Ramp the Main Ramp? Then again, maybe I misunderstood your response.

The Main Ramp is the one that goes North/South, stops, then goes East/West and connects to the deed. And the Side Ramp goes East/West and connects to the deed.
