Midnight Wurm

A custom game world by the Midnight Watchmen Gaming Community.

 

Midnight Wurm's primary server is a custom 4,096 x 4,096 game map known as the "Realm of the Celestial Paladins".

 

Starts, Gains, Configuration:

  • We are a PvE server with a PvP sparring area and occassional PvP special events.
  • Skill Rate Gain: 2x faster
  • Player Combat Modifier: 2x
  • Action Speed Multipiler: 3x faster
  • Custom gain modifiers for each Characteristic
  • Mind Logic/Body Control Start: 21
  • Max Creatures: 22,000 ( currently ~19k spawned )
  • Aggressive Creatures: 40% Total Population
  • Numerous 'hotspots' so there is always a baddie to be found and places for group hunting parties
  • Field Growth tick rate: Every 5 hours (~24 hour harvests)
  • Breeding Time Modifier: default rate
  • Live Map Viewer updates top of every hour
  • Two additional deities connected to our world lore.
  • Expandable bank slots (to 20)

 

Server Modifications Made (Most):

  • AshProduce - Ash has a small chance to appear in campfires, ovens, and forges.
  • BetterCombatLog - Ingame combat log is colorized to help read combat text actions easier.
  • BountyMod - You will receive a bounty for each creature you kill, rather than random chance.
  • ChestClaim - Treasure Chests have a chance to spawn randomly on the server map, waiting for you to claim them
  • CropMod - (Partial) Crops will not wither and will remain until harvested.
  • HarvestHelper - (Partial) Server will broadcast when various harvest times are happening and close to ready. Players can also type /seasons to get detailed harvest/seasons information.
  • BetterDig - When you dig piles will appear on the ground rather than going to your inventory.
  • FireBurnTime - Examining an oven or forge will give you a more precise time left to burn message.
  • HitchingLimits - More critters can be hitched than default, as to which ones you'll just have to see. :)
  • HotS Fixes - (Partial) Allows mycelium to spread on the server, and allows Fungus spell to be cast.
  • InBreedWarning - You'll be notified if you attempt to in breed your animals.
  • MerchantItems - Merchants have their max items increased to 100 vs the standard 50.
  • LibilaFix - Those choosing to go dark will not automatically change to HotS kingdom, so you can travel and not attempt to be axe murdered by most everything.
  • MoveMod - Allows moving items to the center or corner of a tile from the right click > move menu.
  • ProspectMod - You can now prospect inside of a mine to find veins vs. only on the surface.
  • SalveMod - Displays power value in healing covers description along with ingredients.
  • SpellMod - (Partial) Standard priest restrictions removed and need for linking. No delay between prayers (vs std 20mins). Default 5 daily limit.
  • StableMaster - Allows lead or ridden animals to be converted for a fee to a token to aid in transportation. Tokens can not go between servers currently.
  • ServerPacks - Used by other mods and allows us to add additional custom content.
  • Tweak - Traders are immortal and can not be killed
  • Tweak - Players are prevented from loot leeching dragon and hatchling slaying by simply being in the area. You must enage in the fight to receive loot.
  • Admin - a variety of tweaks/mods to ease GM administration that does not directly effect players.

*Partial means some of the options in the author's mod have been enabled but not all. Not all mods are listed here on purpose, for security or bit of mystery purposes.

 

We recommend our players run the following basic mods: AGO's Mod Launcher, Live Map, Server Packs and Custom Map.

 

We strive to create a fun yet balanced gameplay environment. We choose our modifications carefully to give you an enriched experience with added features and conveniences yet maintain realism and putting effort into your character and what they become. We will never claim to have the most of or be the best of anything. We leave that to the players to decide if they want to call our world their home, though naturally we hope you do. Welcome home to the gaming Oasis!

 

-General Information and Rules-

Boats: A number of "rental" rowboats have been made available that anyone can command and access the hold of in the Twilight Docks area to help folks venture into the world and find their homes. Please return them when you are done with them. If no other friends play with you ask a GM for assistance.

Deed Information: We are not a free deed / no upkeep server. However, the initial 11x11 tiles are granted free. So if you just want the basics you can have a free starter deed (you'll still need 80c for the upkeep fund minimum). Founding a larger deed is no problem, those 121 free tiles will be factored in during the founding process. Maximum allowed deed size is 100 in any direction on any of our servers. Limit 3 deeds per SteamID, regardless of how many characters you have.

Real Life Money: We do not have an item shop or sell the in game currency. We do not badger players to donate to the server upkeep. A link to do so is provided for those desiring to support the community. We may opt to provide an in-game gift of some kind as a thank-you however we are NOT a Pay2Win or Pay2Play server, nor ever will. We do not discourage the exchange of money between players, in world or otherwise.

Getting Started: We have a well stocked public crafting area, a free inn, iron mine, clay, tar, and moss pits. The crafting area features a number of ovens, forges, kilns, a loom, spinning wheel, anvils, and supplies like logs, and rocks. Additionally we have complimentary small temporary housing units available. See our FAQ page for more on the housing.

Market: In the spawn area of Twilight Docks and Market players are able to place a personal merchant at the public marketplace. Limit 2 per player. First come, first serve. Vendors with no items for sale for more than 45 days may be dismissed. Traders have 10 silver by default instead of just 1 to help folks earn initial startup capital. Also periodically check the GM merchant booth at the market for current specials for sale or random offerings. Treasure chest of varying quality will spawn periodically around the map.

Religion: All four of the original deities are playable on our servers including two additional deities to support our lore. The Twilight Cathedral features altars for all 6 deities and some additional altars can found in strategic locations throughout the main city and docks. Chosing a deity to follow is done via another player priest converting you or by taking a trip to the White Altar (Fo, Vy, Mag, Stjerna, Stjarna) or the Black Altar (Lib).

Other: In general the basic rules that apply to Wurm Online apply here as well, as found on their forums. Our FAQs include additional rules and guidelines for our environment. Our GMs/CAs are available to assist with questions, issues, and invite your feedback.

Quests/Events: We don't have any quests yet but have a number of ideas and will be developing those as time goes on. Additional original fresh content exists and more is planned for introduction for the player base's enjoyment. Periodic events are held to provide a break of the grind, provide everyone with some fun and challenges and reward you with prizes.

 

About Us: Our gaming community was founded in 2005, we are operated by RLYC., Inc. a registered non-profit organization and partially sponsored by Beyond Web Creations, LLC our hosting company. Lead by a veteran player (started WO in 2011) who is a Network Systems Engineer we have the resources and stability for the long haul to ensure our cluster is a quality environment that is around for a long time to come. We launched in December, 2016.

AUGUST

August 6th, Saturday @ 7PM ET, 6PM CT, 5PM MT, 4PM PT, Monday 9AM AET
Mystery Event

The event originally planned for July 29th but cancelled due to participant turn out has been rescheduled for August 6th. We will meet at Twilight and taxi service will be provided if needed. The portals in the docks market area in the special events pavilion (market square) will be the starting points. This event can be completed without fighting anything but one of the "stops" will put you at a perfect spot for some solo or group hunting.

August 13th, Sunday @ 7PM ET, 6PM CT, 5PM MT, 4PM PT, Monday 9AM AET
Monthly War-Hour Event
 
Join us for one of our international community's favorite events War-Hour! It will take place in its usual location the Paladins' Sparring Arena in Twilight's Edge (starter town). Please park all carts in the nearby parking lot, do not bring them into the arena. There is a staging area on the north side were you can drop containers for meds etc. If you are not bringing anything other than what is on your person or you are running late taxi service will be provided.

So what is War-Hour? The GM Staff will randomly spawn things! What kind of things you ask? Well things to mass murder of course! Sometimes it may be 1 or 2 'things' at a time, or maybe the GM spawns a dozen or two of some 'things' accidentally *wink wink* on the crowd, who knows 'things' just happen at War-Hour. Things to kill, things to take home with you, it's simply an event about things. *devious grin*

You are encouraged to bring medical supplies. Sometimes magical mysterious healings are known to happen during these War-Hours but as they say better safe than sorry. If you are brand new and have no supplies please be sure to mention it to the gaggle of participants. They are generally a sharing bunch, and friendly as long as they have been feed recently. This is an event designed for all to participate both those joining the server for the first time 5 minutes ago to our seasoned players.

Fall Event - Hedge Maze

While GM Zorya was planning her mine maze GM Life got to thinking we need to do a hedge maze for the fall. So come join GM Life for a fun time of get lost, finding loot, accidentally walking into a baddie, and of course food and 'beverage' will be served. A portal to the event will be available on the Twilight Market in the special events pavilion. Once the constructions site is determined we'll update this post for those that want to travel directly rather than to Twilight and portal.

Halloween Event - Twin Mountains Hermitage

October's special event will be taking place at the Twin Mountains Hermitage. GM Zorya has a fun time planned for everyone in the Hermitage's maze mine. Treasure, fun, and of course food and 'beverage' will be served. What mysteries and secrets will the haunted mine reveal? Come find out you will not be disappointed.

We are now nearing our 2 month mark and have enjoyed the building of an amazing community of 2 dozen regular players already. In the past month we have implemented a custom modifier to all Characteristics to provide balance to the 2x skill gain rates already enjoyed. We have increased the number of creatures on the server getting us closer to our target creatures level of 15,000. Currently there are over 13,000 creatures spawned. We also increased the agro creature percentage to provide a bit better balance as well from 25% to now 30%.

 

By popular request we've also added a couple additional mods such as the Hitching Limits mod which we all thought would be fun to be lead around by some additional creatures. Also the LibilaFix mod so that folks can choose BlackLight on our main server and still be able to travel around without everything and its sister trying to kill you.

 

We have a great main town and stocked public crafting area to help people get on their feet, or borrow a rental boat and head right out into the wilderness. New deeds are constantly springing up expanding our community of players nearly daily. Come give us a try I'm sure you'll call it home.

Awsome server and the people running it as very friendly and easy to talk to.  There is always a few players on never felt alone.  I am looking forward to many years of Midnight Wurm.

I've been on this server for a little over a week now. Hand's down, it's the friendliest bunch of people I've ever met in Wurm.

This week by popular request we have introduced the Ash producing mod but with a change to the default author's chance rate. We'll run it for two weeks collect player feedback and then make it a part of our permanent mod set if positive.

What about seryll, adamantine and glimmersteel, how does one get them in game?

Adamantine and Gimmersteel are ore veins (though rare) just like any other ore like iron. Seryll on our main server can only be obtained via event or quest rewards (Ada and Glim are also sometimes given out this way in addition to the veins existing).

Seems like a very nice server. Action and skill timers are only a smidgen above normal, so you won't get bored too fast by "completing" too soon. A very nice starter area with some public housing cottages for those who want a little security at the start, nearby starting resources and workstations, and even loaner rowboats for those chomping at the bit to head out into the wilds and be on their own right away. Map sill has tons of open areas, too!  Always friendly people in the global chat. Community events for those who like to socialize, but also plenty of "personal space" given for those who prefer to be more reclusive and independent.  

 

I have been on some servers that were "too hard" and some that were "too soft", and this one seems a very nice "Goldilocks" middle ground.

I know some other servers have done this long ago but we are currently each week starting with this past week releasing some additional content that we are 'unlocking' such as making all the core kingdoms and WO PMKs items craftable. We are thing this in advance as a lead up to us releasing some of our own unique new content. We have released all the flags so far this next Monday we are releasing the banners. Followed by tents, wagons, tabards and guard towers. We are hoping that once this release wave is complete our custom content will be ready for release. Now is a great time craft some extra shinies in form of decorations with new and exciting items coming soon down the pipeline here.

I am actually excited more about the future new "potables" (planting plants in planter pots) you mentioned in the modding section thread, lol.  

 

i love puttering around a homestead putting up rose and ivy trellises and flower pots, I usually have a mass of planter racks for my herbs and spices, and just the thought of STILL MOAR things to plant and harvest. sends a shiver of excitement down my spine ;)

 

Probably not on your list, but I have often hungered for someone to come out with miniature orange trees (model recaled to 25% or something) , at which point my life will be complete. If that is too hard, I might be willing to settle for coffee and raspberry bush planters ...

This is actually in interesting idea and one I'll put on the master development roadmap to explore. I can tell you right now though come blep or high water coffee will be happening. Will be a while yet though a number of other projects to nail down but I'm very passionate about making coffee beans happen.

Oops, I borrowed one of the "loaner rowboats" made available for new players there to explore with and find a place to deed. Using it I was able to find a really nice island to start a deed on. However due to home issues, I have not been on as much as expected, and I have not yet finished making a rowboat to allow me and an alt to return the loaner boat to the spawn docks. Website says we can ask a GM to pickup the boat if we have difficulties returning it ourselves? If so, I would feel less guilty if someone can help me return it to the spawn city.

 

 

The loaner starter cabins at spawn, plus loaner rowboats for exploring, are a really nice touch in letting new players to the server retain a lot of Independence when they first get started.

A really nice idea towards making new people feel welcomes to the server!

Don't know if it's just the olympics but the server could benefit from some more players. A tip: Find an abandoned boat, ship, cart or wagon and claim it to yourself. I don't think abandoned deeds/buildings can be claimed.
