Can't load wurm, stuck at 0% downloading even when there is no update

Recommended Posts

I have had this problem for some months, but over the last few days it has been worse, and I have had great difficulty loading Wurm. When I first try to run the launcher, it won't run at all and I get the following details:

On the 2nd or 3rd attempt the launcher loads, but incompletely. I cannot see the times/winds and number of players on. If I try to play when the launcher is like this, the game fails to load. Normally on the 3rd or 4th try the launcher loads completely, but with a download apparently happening. The download always sticks at 0% and the play button is greyed out. Loading again normally fixes this issue and I can play. However now, this download 0% doesn't go away. It appears to be a 'phantom' download as it appears every time. The image for the news also often fails to load. I have tried launching from the website, deleting temp java files (repeatedly), reinstalling java to make sure I have the right version (I do), uninstalling Wurm through the java control panel (twice) and running the launcher as administrator. Under pack updates I have unselected all options (experimental was unselected by default).

I have posted about this issue before here:

http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/145795-launcher-freezing-not-loading-cant-load-wurm/

but as stated above this fix no longer works.

After nearly an hour of trying this evening, I seem to have the launcher working and the play button is clickable. However this is getting increasingly frustrating, and I am unsure what on earth I can do to solve this issue! Can anyone shed any light on this?

EDIT: On looking at the error log under pack updates, I see this:

It may be the wurm patch server has updated its IP address but your ISP hasn't yet updated its nameserver.

I did a little googling and saw that this morning. I flushed the DNS cache according to the instructions, and got the launcher running. I didn't play then, and having just restarted the computer to play, I've had the same issue. However on reloading the launcher for, I think, the 4th time, it appears to be functional. Confused Olaf is confused.

Just wanted to give this a brief update. I've found that if I flush dns before attempting to load the launcher, it works. I have to flush each time I want to run the game, so if I play then quit and want to play again later, I have to flush dns again. Still confused, but it seems to work.
