Levelling Cave Ceiling

Levelling cave ceiling does not appear to work quite right. I flatten the ceiling above where I'm standing, and then level an adjacent ceiling tile and I get:

[08:10:51] You start to flatten the ceiling.
[08:10:55] You mine some rock shards.
[08:11:00] You mine some rock shards.
[08:11:06] You mine some rock shards.
[08:11:06] The ceiling is now flat.
[08:11:10] You start to level the ceiling.
[08:11:14] You mine some rock shards.
[08:11:15] You need to be standing under a flat ceiling to be able to level an adjacent tile.

So, I wondered if a corner of the adjacent tile was higher than ceiling tile the levelling is starting from, so moving there I get...

[08:13:53] You start to flatten the ceiling.
[08:13:57] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:03] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:08] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:15] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:23] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:30] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:38] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:45] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:45] The ceiling is now flat.
[08:14:49] You start to level the ceiling.
[08:14:54] You mine some rock shards.
[08:14:59] You mine some rock shards.
[08:15:05] You mine some rock shards.
[08:15:12] You mine some rock shards.
[08:15:19] You mine some rock shards.
[08:15:26] You mine some rock shards.
[08:15:34] You mine some rock shards.

[08:15:42] The ceiling is now flat.

So, the tile being levelled looks to have had at least one corner higher than the flat tile being stood under.

 

Didn't we get a message about tile being levelled being higher, and the levelling stopping - rather than a shared corner being raised and then the levelling failing?

 

And if not, shouldn't we get a message rather than the flat tile over our heads getting altered?
