I just clicked like on a post and a pop-up with that message showed up. Is this something new in Town Square or a bug?

Maybe it's a new profiling thing where they system knows that you really don't "like" the poster so it blocks you from giving them positive rep or Likes. Sort of a lie detector *like* system to keep things honest. Just needs some adjustment for individual mood swings that would change the parameters.

Sounds like plausible theories (though I like the random theories posted in the thread before that too).

I don't remember whose post I clicked like on and it doesn't show up on my profile flow, so I can't check if either of the theories fit (well... I guess I could test Ayes' and Makarus' theories out xP)

Some posters you just might not *like* for various reasons. My theory presented was that a secret experimental feature has been added to the forums that can determine this, so if you don't really *like* them you are prevented from giving them a Like on the forums. Simple really.

That seems counterintuitive though. You don't have to like a person to appreciate a good idea they might have.

True enough; however, when making up absurd theories that might or might not apply to facts unknown the logic involved within intuitiveness can be blithely ignored for the sake of expanding creativity.

 

Beyond this, many times I have noticed that certain posters will not give *Likes* to an individual based upon not liking them in general due to their previous posts which they might not have liked or their forum personality or whatever. This can be easily noted when one of their friends will make a comment further on which reflects directly the posted idea from a person that they do not like. Then they will afterwards *Like* their friends post where beforehand they had not *Liked* the post of the person that they do not like for other reasons than the content of that post, which in effect was the same as their *liked* friend.

 

Not too farfetched after all, eh? Other than maybe the secret experimental advanced forum monitoring system theory I had initially presented. Yet if I had outlined it all as I have just done that might spoil the fun, so I didn't. Ahh, very tricky of you luring me into being so straightforward. Well done!
