Make unique spawns similar to rift

Recommended Posts

Yes its alot of work hunting for unique and some people do that all the time but would be better for the game if everyone could enjoy it. As it is now theres 50-60 peple that are the only people killing every unique. There is no more public dragon or drake slayings. Just make it like a rift and be done with it.

or if devs dont really care which lots of people involved with wurm are in hunting groups they can just make people hoarding dragon eggs and making 1000's of dollars again.

There are many reasons to play Wurm. Many good reasons, valid reasons, reasons based upon Wurm's Strengths rather than it's weaknesses. Combat in Wurm to most people is not one of Wurm strength's, it's one of it's weaknesses.

Combat in Wurm to some players simply sucks and has been reported hundreds of times on these forums and multiple times in various websites such as mmorpg.com. Wurm needs to be re-coded from the ground up, a brand new game, a true Wurm 2.0, this time with modern combat features in mind and then maybe, maybe, you might see half the players participate if that.... because the strength of Wurm isn't it's combat or the Rifts or Unique fights or PvP or any combat related... the strength of Wurm is in making real money from the game and building/designing/altering deeds and landscapes. Not much combat needed for that. Build on your strengths not weaknesses. Hundreds of other games do combat better according to comments made hundreds of times over the last decade.

Don't try to get more to go to Unique fights because those who want to or have the capacity to deal with the player drama already are... instead enhance the combat system so those who DO enjoy Wurm combat will benefit and support the game... because Wurm is losing these players by droves if comments here and elsewhere are to be believed. Wurm will never get a true 2.0 and I think everyone has realized that by now. Pay attention to the PvPers and the Raiders and Hunters and fix what Wurm has and enhance that rather than redesign a wheel for a "wagon" that is over 10 years old and most would never want to "drive".

And I'm not a PvPer or a Raider and never will be, and I'm not a RMTer (those who know me around here know I can't stand either of those) but if I owned CodeClub I would sure have enough sense to know who to please around here... those who are most likely to bring new players to the game and that is the Combat Oriented Crowd.

(Why do I care? Because if WO fails because it forgot to take care of the players that arguably support it the most then I LOSE AS WELL... because i will never again use STEAM and so WO remaining viable to me is important. Take care of the Players here that are loyal to WO, to Chaos, to Epic, to the Unique Hunts and the Rift, maintain WO for all of us please)

Most online games don't allow RMT and compared to other games Wurm Online draws some player simply because they can make real money from it, and over the years these players spent a pile of cash in the hopes of doing well rmt ingame. It would be folly to ignore this group especially since Rolf unleashed this monster himself. I personally despise the RMT aspects of Wurm but Rolf allows it and CC has made money from it and it has helped to support the game.

games cant be designed around catering to people that want to make money playing it.

I tend to agree with you but that is exactly what Rolf did.

Forget that part for a moment and consider the rest of what I wrote. I agree with your ideas that the Unique Hunts should be more public friendly, and what I point out is this: If the Devs would spend some serious time and make PvP/Unique Hunts/Rifts/and general Combat their number one priority then we would see an increase in how many attend Unique Hunts simply because Combat would be better overall... hopefully.

If someone spends a lot of time searching for the elusive 'uniques' then they are entitled to the big rewards such as hides, bones etc. All I wish is that every now and then non-combat orientated players such as myself are able to attend community events and receive blood or a scrap of hide so that over a period of years I have to opportunity to make a scale glove or whatever..

I do think that as searching for a unique is obviously enjoyable for some, the current method of hatching should be continued to enable these 'trackers' to find and pen. When this is done it would (in my opinion) be positive for the community if at least deed owners on the actual server could then be informed of the event.

I am not asking to be invited to the feast, simply to be allowed to take a few scraps off the table- is this too much to ask for?

of course i can understand that f they have to go find it.

I'm just saying it shouldnt be that way...make it obvious where uniques will spawn.  And keep them from being trapped but at the same time keep it from any deed they can damage and make it so they dont roam far.

uniques are no way balanced for that ... or public events. If you want them to be interesting, you will have to adapt the difficulty to them... so they are balanced for 30 fighters or 100+.

You will also have to balance the loot in a proper way and rifts are far from being balanced in that regard.

What might be interesting would be to increase the spawns, tweak down the mob strength and the loot drop by a tiny bit allowing more groups to find them / kill them with less slayers - less organization. Maybe even remove that server wide event message and twitter broadcast.

Uniques are fine.  Non-dragon/drake uniques are still welfare money for people that come in local, and they are almost always announced on the forum.

As for dragons and drakes.... well.... when there's 100 people in local, there's not really alot you can do with .01 (or whatever) scale/hide pieces.

I wish there were stronger mobs that moved slowly or kind of stayed in one general area when they spawned, and they didn't give chase, so you could spot one, come back with a few friends or whatever you needed to kill it, and the drop would spread evenly among all the fighters. It wouldn't be good if they chased, because they'd be killing everyone all the time, but it would be fun to have something hard to fight where you didn't have to organize for hours and there wasn't the unpleasantness of how loot is distributed now.

of course its fine as it is to the people in the slaying groups... niki , wargasm

yes odynn  the loot shoudl be balanced just like rifts. everyone who gets decent participation gets scale or drake . would have to remove the 20 player crowding rule on them.

I am not sure how it could be changed or that it would even help in any way.  Especially with the new update for cooking coming in.  Even the dragon meat that you will get from the butcher will have some value to someone for their affinity.  How would the tome etc be shuffled through.  I just do not see a way for any of the current loot that comes from the corpse to be given through a wide group with any sense of fairness.

not really just would like to see more of the game open to  a larger section of the population.

Some people want to see the game better for everyone.

I can understand that people do it privately because of scale and hide distribution as it is.

But is in no means fine as it currently is where 50-100 people of the population reap all the rewards.

This is why there are Rifts.  If you want to kill dragons more often, join JK.

[22:16:54] The venerable blue dragon is dead. R.I.P.

Sorry Kilroth, I'd have invited you, but chances are you wouldn't set foot on Chaos.

I think we clould have some drekelings or big lizard harder than troll that drops 0.01 drake skin with some rare spawn like fire scorpion that can be kiled solo.
Or chance that at the end of rift dragon will apear summoned by manny rotting corpses.

Remove the tomes and sell 1 shot tomes on Traders.

Scale/Hide drop .20 for all in local.

No reason left for prvt kills.
