Let us wrap items into ,,Gifts boxes" before Christmas

Bring back ,,wrap" option before Christmas. To avoid abuse there can be expiration time (for example one month). After expire gift box would disappear leaving item on tile (or in container).

not that abusive if they auto open after 30 days,

as long they keep same volume and weight as the item they wrap.. cant think of a way to abuse that

Just get rid of the total decay protection as that was the entire goal with the old abuse. Even merely just dialing back the reduction.

 

Granted even with minor decay reduction one could just keep wrapping an item over and over again, so wrapping counters on each item are a possibility.

 

Then can leave the feature in for birthdays or whatever regardless of the season.

Removing the decay kills the idea of ditching an item somewhere to be found and not given hand to hand. BUT it's an option to get rid of any nodecay abuse and keep the nice item in existence around xmas or for any day of the year, it's still a nice RP thing to have for bdays or w/e special days.

/edit: btw.. giftwraping already wraped items is kind of crazy.. could we not have the giftception:huh:/

 

How did the old ones work? Only the one who wraps the item and the gifted person could open them? I do recall seeing "A RARE HULL PLANK, (maybe there was from whom..), FOR JOHN!". Seen these during the summer... randomly ditched around the roads.. old reminders of people who have ditched everything and moved to xanadu.:rolleyes:

+1 Please! It was so handy to pass things off to people in my alliance who are on an opposite timezone.  =)  

And they look so awesome as decorations at Christmas Time!

You mean something like "the-sword-in-the-stone"?

 

The old gifts worked by wrapping an item with activated kindling, then renaming it for a person. You could then "stuff" the gift box under a player-crafted tree for those players to come along later.

 

Initially the wrapper and recipient could open it later; though, towards the end anyone could open them. Once an item was gift-wrapped, there was zero decay on the item, even if you never stuffed it under a tree.

IDK, mechanic seems foolproof, except the part where anyone can pick the item and run.. "for fun", and the item's existence indefinitely.

 

As you suggested removing the no-decay part solves the abuse part; as long items keep their volume/weight it's impossible to abuse that possibility also; maybe make it so items cant be picked by the 2 people who's from and to..

About giftwrap's life.. some skill could affect the ql of creation and time until it's possible to be picked/opened by anyone; we could get a thing.. to dye the wraps to make some use of all the cochineals and such, to add some more value and meaning to the making of presents; it wont just make it more tedious to make a gift.. but show how much you cared to make it this or that color; default model could be with some really boring cheap texture I guess...:lol: or some ~nice but not as good as the painted ones.:ph34r:

This is the solution to being able to once again have gift boxes which would then only serve the purpose of decoration. No need for any more intricacies to be added to nerf the product to Wurm standards of minimalist advantages.
