Will there be new map dumps?

Recommended Posts

Last map dumps are more than a year old. Will there be new map dump releases? I would apreciate a new xanadu map especially.

The question has been raised a few times.

Still looking into it, hoping to produce flat dumps as well/instead of too

Flat map dump along with a heightmap map dump so we can generate our own 3D visualizers for them!

Yes, I'm aware that won't happen, but it's an amusing thought.

There is even a command for DEVs now #savemapdump... So no excuses!

Those maps that some of the WU servers have are great. Some seem to auto-update with all new deed names and all transformations to the land can be seen from a distance with zoom capability. Very nice for viewing new roads just going in with the dirt color lines of them and of course all other roads as completed have that different look. This really should be the standard for all the Wurm servers as well and you would think that with a dedicated staff and associated contract workers that this would be a fitting task for them easily accomplished, when in comparison a single person running their private server seems to handle this easily.

The bandwith differences are phenomenal. 30 people checking a live map vs 300-1000 is a huge difference

Looking at maps on http://maps.mvcomputing.co.uk/ for something that is for all intents and purposes is static, the cache is set-up wrong - with the map tiles only being cached for 5 days (max-age set to 432000). Would make sense to tune those cache settings to match any map update cycle.

Nothing you couldn't do with the servers Code Club is using at Hetzner. These servers are the best you can get and will handle things without problems.
