Glasshollow Spawn Church - Sila

Hi Everyone
Last weekend saw the new domain system go live on Xanadu lag free! We're really pleased it worked and will look at optimising Xanadu further as time goes on, hopefully eliminating some of that pesky lag. But in other news!

Glasshollow
Glasshollow starter deed works have been finished, and look amazing, if you're in the area, drop by and check out their work!
Several starter deeds did not have ideas tended, but we're always open to some, if you'd like to have a go, put together a proposal in deedplanner and let us know!

Emoo's back!
And has a competition! After a slight hiccup Emoo has launched his new video, starting with a competition to name his new deed! My vote is for Emoo plains or One Flew Over the Emoo Nest!

Something's Cooking
We've hinted and teased at the next big update being cooking, and all that comes with it. It's still a few months away, but I've managed to drag Tich away from the kitchen to discuss it a bit in next weeks news, so stay tuned!

Wurm Unlimited update
The new Live version of WU will go out on Monday, the 8th. This will include several server fixes as well as show pauldrons!

Community Content
Digging through Youtube videos of various Wurm projects, tutorials, and various other things you occasionally stumble across an old gem. This tutorial has a rather different take on Wurm, and goes through the basics of building a campfire, making your first meal, and digging! Pardon the resolution, Wurm wasn't so detailed back then.

That's it for this week, next week we'll have some more info on the upcoming cooking update, but until then, keep on wurming!

News from December 4th 2015:
>>

Digging!

Another upcoming change will be that digging will now work similar to mining, with the dirt appearing on the tile, as opposed to into your inventory. This will only be for digging, and levelling/flattening will continue to work as it does currently.

dont belive everything !

Im going to agree with Sila and say we should take a hint from the video and putting sand/dirt in our pockets. Lets fix it! Digging should be more like mining, they have it on WU why not WO.

I'm interested in what the developers are actually thinking with real PvP change.

No, not new features in PvP that you want to add for whatever reason, but the existing way the servers are run.  Seriously, if a developer can comment and actually say what concrete mechanic changes that they are looking into... that would be great.  The overwhelming majority of PvPers will tell you that tweaking with armor reduction and shooting arrows at boats is NOT what is needed.  All you need to do is ask and I can guarantee a huge list would be made up of thought out ideas that would make people enjoy playing on these kind of servers.

I'm not trying to knock the wind out of anyone's sails but Epic is an unplayable server, just look at the population and how many actual fights have happened in the past few months.  I left Wild for years to play on Epic and had a great time until it got so damn stale I couldn't even force myself to log in.  So now I guess I play catch up with the Wild folk so I can play what I consider fun - "PvP" style.  It really isn't fair to the guys who put a ton of time/effort into something that is not enjoyable anymore.

Paid premium since Gold 1 started, tons of money put towards my multiple accounts.... I really enjoy the premise of the game immensely, thats why I'm posting. I really don't want to look for other games since I consider myself "loyal" to the idea of Wurm Online.  Even a guy like me who pretty much grew up playing the game can get disenfranchised.

It's good to know that something is going on with cooking!  I haven't had any reason to cook anything different than the same old meat + potato meal for ages now.

Just clear any confusion. Cooking has been worked on over the past year by Tich, and she continues to develop it. PvP updates are handled by other devs, these two projects are seperate.

Inb4 combat gets overhauled to be more complex and interactive only to have the PvP'ers say:

"THIS ISN'T WOW! I'M HOSTING A CLASSIC WU SERVER!"

I mean would this happen if we had a say or at least had input to what went into the game to have to do with PvP?

I'd love to know who said we should be able to shoot boats.  And Cold/Fire/Poison reductions.

But what's the point, you'll just come back with some bland comment and it'll be upvoted by the guy working on the PvP changes.  And that'll be that.

Think blockading access to and from Freedom, coastal deeds having a new layer of defense.... I've opposed it in the past, but now connecting Chaos to Rel/Pri would be more interesting.  More combat-oriented ships would really spice that up in any case.  Also, methinks it would be a bit more dynamic if ships had to be escorted when carrying imports from Freedom.

As for that question... TRICKY.... everytime some change is discussed it devolves into KvK, "this update will favor <x> kingdom" and you guys are known for being VERY allergic to change as a whole.. I mean historically, PvP opposed multi-story housing at a point.

Honestly, I think the best way to go forward with picking and designing PvP changes would be to have 1-3 reps from each kingdom to sift through the suggestions and organize/filter them for the devs.  It's worked for other games.  If something like that happens however, I do recommend you guys consider "damage to PvE" (ie: useless tower guards that are useless to anyone new/newish) as a major factor, because if too many PvP changes scare off too many PvE players, financials may eventually push Rolf back to just adding stuff to PvE.  Granted a code split would simplify that aspect.  As for features being added FROM PvE, they could very well be used for attracting semi-PvP'ers who want to join the war efforts in a more "supplier" style.

Also, adding something designed for PvP to PvE will NOT "kill PvP" or make it worthless, no matter how identically a feature is copied over to PvE, it will NOT be the same for the simple reason that people won't be burying axes into each others' heads.  Denying features to PvE just to keep PvP "unique" (there'll always be features that don't cross over too well, like siege weapons for beyond decoration) won't bring more players over to your side, it'll just reduce Wurm's overall income resulting in less and less dev-hours going yearly into game development.

Y'all need to start being a bit more flexible, and while at it accept PvE as something that won't go away solely for your benefit.  The player counts speak for themselves.

Sure let me know whats best for pvp when you actually play in a pvp server, but while you're pve, keep your suggestions to that please. Just seems safe to say if doesn't concern you don't try to make changes to it.

(no offense, although im sure someone will see this as offensive and remove it as always even though yours is just as offensive and will remain)

Features/changes tend to bleed over in both directions which in the long run will determine how many more years Wurm remains viable, even for WU players.

Besides, not like PvP'ers don't chime in regarding PvE changes all the time, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.... just saying...

Hey Mord, that's been tried before, the whole '1-3 people from each kingdom',

It's dead and in the trash now, with the only thing to come out of it being no cool down on some enchants.
