What's the point of this section (Suggestions & Ideas)

Recommended Posts

What the point of this section?

People put here tons of great suggestions, but it looks that maybe 1% of them is implemented after long period of time (if any).

It's clearly seen that Rolf/Devs/Game master's are not interested in discussion, or do not have time for this, couse almost always there are no replies/comments to player's suggestions.

Sad thing is, that there are many suggestions players ask for from many years. They are easy to implement but still not there.

I understand that there is a small number of developers and they do not have a time for this, but maybe there should be hired another person who would take care only for all those small fixes?

Couse otherwise what's the point of this section, it just looks like wasted effort.

EDIT: saddest part is, that if devs play this game, most of suggestions would be common sense to them, but it looks that they do not play

new horse types, rifts, cave dwellings, "bug" fixes (eg:don't kill your own horse), dragon armour scrap removal(?), sotg nerf.. just a very very small list of things that come to mind that, to me at least, seem to have been initiated/requested from this area..

So.. what's the point of your post ? :)

Yeah, that's the 1% I was talking about.

Did you even read all the 698(or so...) pages ? A lot of "usefull" stuff is allready implemented....

If we had the time or manpower to actually implement all of the suggestions and great ideas that come up, that would be amazing, but we don't - so we can't.

This is also ignoring that a lot of suggestions may have unintended consequences that we have to think about before starting to include them, or are just downright impossible with our current setup. They might be good ideas that seem easy to implement, but some of them are actually deeper issues that won't be solved with a quick change, or those quick changes can easily devolve into larger changes that mess with the balance of existing mechanics.

Just looking at the first page of that forum now, 9 or 10 are new items or graphics that take time to create - with only one full time artist that already has a long to-do list. 5 or 6 suggestions are large mechanics changes that would need a lot of time to map out and test - with at least a couple of them being near impossible to do in Wurm's current form. 6 or 7 are smaller changes that wouldn't take much time, but would still need a fair amount of testing to make sure they didn't mess with existing stuff - and some of the rest are possible changes or fixes that we could implement with minimal downsides.

The problem from here though is that we currently have a to-do list of hundreds of small changes and bug fixes like this, with a lot of them being higher on the priority list to get out - not counting the other plans and ideas we have for the game that have been on our list for months or years already.

Just know we do look at the suggestions, and the well liked ones that are possible to include we do end up doing, but they might not come in a short time frame just due to testing, additional fixes and existing things on our plate.

Please remember that many are volunteer developers, so have a 'day' job to keep the wolf from the door as well as other responsibilities. So, they may not play as much as they would wish, as they have to find time to work on development.

I look at the S&I section as more of an outlet for players to express their ideas to improve the game in some manner with little expectation that any of them will actually be implemented into the game. Why? Budda did a very good job of explaining that but unfortunately it seems many players have unreasonable expectations.

I have always been under the impression that most, if not all, of the volunteer and paid devs actually do play the game.

Go to WU, implement the suggestions yourself, then comeback here and complain about how easy it is and use your mods as proof.

imo, the issue is and in no particular order: 1) mostly volunteer developers having limited time.  2) a couple of them have severe cases of arrogant developer syndrome and basicly only do what they think should be done while ignore players. 3) The WO community has a very diverse collection of opinions on what is a good change so it's hard to best choose changes that have the greatest impact.
