Game crashes in loading screen and stutters/lags

Hello

 

I just downloaded Wurm online but I can't start playing because the game crashes during the loading screen. So I searched the forums and found out that somebody has had the same problem (I got the same error message and log):

 

I tried to change the settings and install java 64 bit, as recommended in that thread. Now I get into the game but I can't play as it starts lagging/stuttering like hell and also the game is 'not responding' after a short while, and the overall performance is dreadful, even though my system specs should meet the requirements (?). So do you guys have any idea?

 

My system specs:

 

Win 7, 64 bit

Intel HD graphics family 3000

intel core i5-2430m 2.4 ghz

4GB ram

Post your console log from Wurm/console.llendor.log perhaps there is something there that can help.

 

Try disabling GLSL shaders in compatibility options tab that may help, or turn off shadows, animations, sound, reduce resolution until you find something that works.

I hope this is what you meant! As for the other things you suggested, nothing seems to work unfortunately. I don't know if that is the case with Wurm but I seem to have a very retarded computer. Many games that my friends get to work just fine are not working on my computer. I've had problems of this sort A LOT. :)

You may have 64 bit java installed but Wurm isn't using it and you're getting out of memory errors which is a common problem with 32 bit java.

 

You can either uninstall 32 bit java if you don't need it for anything or setup a batch file to force Wurm to use 64 bit java as detailed here

I tried that, now the game launches normally and isn't complaining about java but still stutters a lot. I'm using minimum graphics settings, so I guess my computer just isn't good enough.

Wurm can be run on fairly old hardware there are some things you can do to increase performance such as reduce tile decorations and disable animations, turn off distant terrain. The stuttering could be because you have 1 model loading thread try increasing this to 2 or 3.

Still not working. I tried everything you (and the thread you linked) told me to do but it still isn't any better.

 

But thank you for your help anyway! Maybe I'll still try to adjust the settings and see if I can make it work any better. Or maybe I'll just buy a new computer. :)

The advanced tab in settings, before you launch the game, while you are on server select. There are some options you need to change for intel on board graphics. Namely VBO and FBO support, disable them, perhaps Multi Draw too but don't do multi draw unless you see weirdness after doing away with VBO and FBO.

 

VBO is usually the culprit, I would do one at a time and get rid of VBO only first, however with that old hd3000 you will likely have to get rid of both.

That didn't work either. I already had them disabled but I also tried to enable them all and then disable one by one but it seems to do nothing.
