client render testing!

Hi everyone, we'll be having a test round of the rifts today in the evening using the new client rendering engine, we will also have a feedback form if you wish to fill it out, and be sure to post any bugs, questions or comments here too!

I can already start with the bugs then :P

 

Full extreme settings (everything maxed) - VRAM of GPU full and I am getting this:

On current renderer it will still load everything (also full VRAM) but have very very few FPS (8-12) - on the new renderer very good FPS (30-40) but looks like that

 

Also lighting seems bugged, its very dark in the visible part of the cave

When i use my  "TOGGLE_CHARACTER_WINDOW" key bind it does not show the character in the right size.

improve keybind isn't working.  Must use menus to improve.  Several keybinds seem to have trouble, even when set properly.  I think this is already known though.

 

edit:  Seems the mouse pointer ignores items in open windows, when using keybinds.  I have forge window open, put pointer on hammer and ckick my repair keybind and it attempts to repair the wall that the forge window is overlaying.  Also, pickup/take works the same way.  I have a corpse open, try to click "take" on a heart, but since the background was the corpse, I take the entire corpse and not the heart in the window.

Sent a few comments/bug to Keenan the other day from testing the Mac client. Here are some things I have spotted mainly in addition to those I've already mentioned.

  • There is shimmering/flickering to the shadows in the trees, both in the trees themselves and on the ground under them - particularly noticeable with fir. Winter, with snow on the ground probably makes this easier to see.
  • Willow tree canopy has a level transparent, so distant terrain can be seen through it - rather than the lacy effect seen in the current 'live' client.
  • I know that distant trees have never had a shadow under them, but with the new shadows this look worse. Walking through trees the extent of the shadows does not quite extent to the limit of your view, so an area of trees without any shadow is visible to some extent. This is of course more obvious when outside the forest. It would be an idea to darken the tiles with distant trees, so that there is not the jump from a tile in sunshine, to one in shadow as we travel towards it.
  • The difference between distant and nearer tree models is jarring, nothing new and more obvious in autumn and winter - some tree type having a quite different model depending on distance. As it's currently winter on test, the birch tree is very obvious - its distant model having leaves, with snow on them, while the more detailed model has few if any leaves.
  • Sailing in a row boat - the boat model flicker in/out of being rendered. Seems to be connected with rendering the next block of scenery as you approach it.
  • Moons have the wrong phase, as well as having a dark/black line around them.
  • On the paper doll, the brightness of weapons, shield, and headgear seems variable. Can be very dark, but have also had it flickering.
  • Chain coif appears to have an old, bugged, model.

* drake helm gets misplaced into head on swings
* cannot use keybinds in windows (like inventory, paperdoll), hovering mouse there and pressing keybind interacts with the ground or item behind the window instead.

I dont know about you guys but i have had no fps .. maybe 2-3 at most but usually 1 amd seems even slower than that.. makes it hard to play when your UI only lets you make decisions 1 time a second but thats me.. i notice since b4 the portal the rifts was even activates so i don't know whats causing.. ill post more later but heres a synopsis of my machine:

WIn 7 64 bit, 6 gigs ram,, 6450 hd radeon car 1 gig of video memory... lots of hard drive room.newest Java update, ill post more later.  if needed...

 

PS more importantly but i have lowered everything right down with no luck personally i think it ran better with higher settings..

Everything is working as intended... I believe.

 

Something is wonky with the settings, basics ones insta-crash the 'test' client, my current 'unstable' ones do that.

 

Weird graphic glitch above was due to the client being in no_render, go figure why.

 

As for the default settings, they still induce a crash. Actual client work allow it to work, even after a few minor tweaks to increase the details.

Tried it on lowest settings with GLSL off (because otherwise it crashed) on Intel graphics:

 

- very low FPS;

- constant flickering of every visible tile, it seemed to me that textures were disappearing and appearing again every few seconds randomly around me;

- unable to right click ground tiles unless standing in one place for a minute;

- a black cloud instead of my character in the character window;

- when you look at the ground for a long time, snowflakes don't disappear and add up over time forming a dense white wall that goes away when you look around.

- some models couldn't load: i could only see ogres' weapons but not ogres themselves.

I downloaded the test client a few minutes ago. I love the new launcher :)

 

However, after about 30 seconds of walking around, I ran into this:

it seemed like a huge underground hall, but the culling kept screwing up and hiding most of it.

 

Using a AMD/Radeon HD 7850 1GB. Latest drivers (Crimson 16.4.2).

 

Also, the FPS is low in the video because I had the frame limiter set to 30, then bandicam recording on top of it (half of 30 fps = 15 fps).

Downloaded the client today and went into the Cave Testing area.
 Got the following views:

The above shots were with SLI enabled

 

Redid the last one with SLI disabled:

Same as explora, just that the snowflakes will in the end make the whole screen completely white

I didn't have any issues last night, other than low FPS before I logged out. Snow looked normal and did not affect performance. Most settings were on medium.

Same issue with snow flaking. 

Seemed to happen around certain mobs , mainly caster type.

Latest client update, tried a few times just before 17:00 (GMT+1), freezes on start-up - it starts rendering the ground but does not complete, no interaction with the game works.

 

- tried again, now fixed :)

Rendering in the latest version of the test client is more than a little broken. The title bar has reverted to 'Wurm Online [Bridges]' rather than 4.0, so I assume this version is without the new renderer.

 

Ground rendering jitters while moving, also affect distant terrain. Reflection of the rift beacon is white, rather than red. There are no shadows, not even the ones from the current 'live' client.
