Hi everyone, and a belated Top o' the  morning to you all!

Another week has passed in the world of Wurm, and that means it's news time again! This week we look at a new moon in the sky, upcoming changes to the tutorial server, and announce the winners of our social media comp. But enough of that, the news!

Patch Notes:

That's no moon... Oh wait, it totally is

Several keen astronomers have sighted a new moon in the night sky! After a long period of time in the blind spot Haven is now visible, and with it some exciting changes! We plan on introducing more information behind the mystery of Haven as time goes on, but the first change is slightly obvious given the examine text...

Golden Valley 2.0

We have started working on the foundation of a new tutorial and  will be replacing the Golden Valley map that is currently live. Currently the project is still in its early stages, with planning and preperation being done before introducing the new map. As Golden Valley is also the login server, migrating databases is a little tricky, so due to this we will simply be changing the map with all items and buildings remaining. We will then have the current tutorial operating while we build the new tutorial behind the scenes.

Current "Golden Valley" accounts will be teleported to the tutorial while we work on the new tutorial, and any deeds on the server will be disbanded. decay will also be raised in order to clear remaining items and buildings out. From there we will begin work on building the new tutorial. Once the new tutorial is finished, Golden Valley accounts will once again be able to roam.

This will be occuring in the next few months, depending on how quickly planning progresses, and will include a week or two warning prior to the actual change. Once we retire the current map it will be available to download for Wurm Unlimited servers, it will have all roads and terraforming/mines in it, but no buildings.

Stepping up.

As mentioned last week, Solmark has stepped down as Lead Forum Moderator, to enjoy a peaceful retirement as a CA. I'm pleased to announce that Firestarter has filled the shoes of LFM, with Pandalet taking over as Assistant LFM. We will continue to work closely to ensure that practices remain as transparent and smoothly operating as possible.

State of war!

After a month of jumping in and out of PvP chats, I have finished my PvP review and forwarded it on to the development team, who almost took my hand with it! We will discuss this most likely on Monday or Tuesday, and have something ready to put forward next week in regards to changes and outlines, so stay tuned!

The sky is falling!

This week saw a fix for caves that had large spaces with floors that weren't reinforced. This affected a few players negatively, and was quickly removed. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and I have arranged with the GM team that any heratige sites that have had veins appear from this issue can have them removed via support ticket. Please note this is for heratige sites only.

Wurm Unlimited giveaway!

Over the past two weeks we've had a giveaway for Wurm Unlimited keys to celebrate offline mode. The number of applications has been amazing, and I'm pleased to announce the five winners are:

Don S.
Mirka T.
Bruce H.
Erik B.
Sylvia F.

If you didn't win (which according to the maths is well over 99% of you) Wurm Unlimited is currently 40% off, it ends soon so get in quick!

Weekly question

Quote

With the tutorial getting a revamp, what would you like to see in it?

Weekly screenshot

This weeks screenshot is from our CA Seedlings St Patricks Day sale. Seedlings sold Green forester hats with a competition requiring players to submit screenshots of themselves wearing said hats (damn commercialisation!)

The entire thread can be found here!

That's it from me this week, I hope you all have an awesome weekend, and may the rare rolls be ever in your favour!

Being a GV resident with a deed, I was hoping for some more info.  You mention the map being replaced, so that indicates all roads, teraforming, mines are going to cease to exist, but since you mention bumping up decay, the item database is remaining?  Are cave reinforcements being deleted?  How about keys, locks and gems?  There are thousands of them scattered around the surface of GV now.

Will deed holders get their deed investment returned or are we just saying goodbye?  I won't cry if I lose it, just curious.

Will there be animals back on GV?  Can we drop deeds once agian?  Same rules as last time GV was open, where it is a cap at 20 skill?

Thank you and it will be nice to see all the messy surface of GV vanish for a while.

More info will come as we near the reset date. This will be a complete reset of terrain, caves, and roads. there may be a few items left lying around, but we will see, I'd advise collecting everything you want to keep and storing it on you at the point of reset though.

I imagine remaining deed upkeep will be returned as usual, but there will be no other investment returned.

For GV I would like to see a tutorial like we used to have. Educate these newbie please. They need to  make that first mallet, tree fire etc. And we all know most will not do it if given the option. Waiting to join the game then become frustrated when they do not have any understanding of how to do the simplest of tasks tasks.

The old tutorial where you had to cut a tree, build a fire, make a tool, learn to read slopes and dig, and even mine was awesome. My character that did that tutorial poofed from inactivity as I never did premium it. But the lessons in it sure made things easier.

Also in the pvp discussions discuss about kingdom artifacts, rather then God artifacts. We have to many gods and mostly artifacts are not used.

Make it like the king can give artifacts to kingdom mates. Thus fair for all kingdoms and it wont be like now, where only 1 kingdom has all artifacts and spoils the fun.

and most of the ideas there :

Some were not fitting for a starter deed, i disagreed with you on that point and said "tutorial"... and today, oh great news, i hear tutorial.

Maybe make a Golden Valley 2.0 - Teach the players the ropes, how to move around the world (and how to set their key as they see fit AZERTY vs QWERTY keyboards), how to create items and harvest resources as Chiqa said. The use of beds, SB, foraging, traders, maybe even go a bit further with instanced farm area, fighting system against weak mobs (diseased rats), etc. Enable enough game-play to try out Wurm in secure conditions before the great leap toward a server and a game-play (PvP/PvE/Epic) they chose.

And once the new tutorial is done, some advertising *hint hint again*

Great news on the new tutorial, in my opinion the old one with the activities actually shown to the new players was much more intuitive.

I HAVEN't seen the new moon yet, will clean the lens of my spyglass...

"With the tutorial getting a revamp, what would you like to see in it?"

> how to use a sickle to replant trees

> skills other than fighting that are used in combat (misconception STILL exists that 70 FS makes you a capable fighter, hence "nerf hell hound" posts every other month)

Heh, the more I read about players' view of the old tutorial vs the new one, the more I realize that I may be the only person in Wurm who really, really likes the current tutorial. To me, there is something magical about this starter village that exists on Golden Valley right now. I started the game with the old tutorial, but made an alt when the new one was built. Perhaps my perception was skewed at that point, because I knew a lot about Wurm already, but looking at the cool design of that village and reading a note that everything you see here can be player built made my mind boggle. Talk about sandbox! I can make all this in the game!? I can have it how I want it!? Wow. The pop-up boxes also worked for me, as I visited different areas to explore that GV village. I guess it was just my kind of a tutorial.

Ever since then, I have seen many people state how the tutorial before the current GV village was superior. The usual arguments revolve around the fact that the old one was much more interactive. The new one, instead, is a showcase of Wurm but it doesn't allow one to actually experience what's about to happen. I can understand those points of view and I can see what most of you mean. I suppose interractivity is the key to the new player experience, especially in a game that doesn't hold your hand after you join a server and where you need to know a thing or two about how to survive and make that first shelter. Very good points.

I would, therefore, like to suggest a compromise between the two tutorials. I think all the points that people are already bringing in this post are very valid. The tutorial must be interactive and it must allow you to make that first plank, to let you dig terrain, to show you the uphill and downhill speeds, to teach you how to use a sickle to replant a tree, to educate you about how to use differrent terrain (sand, clay, peat) for various tasks and to just give you a lot of actual hands-on, as opposed to viewer experiences. So, I am on board here. An interactive tutorial, like the one we had before the current GV village is the key.

But here is my suggestion. After the players go through all this, perhaps they should turn a corner and then suddenly, after all their experiences, find themselves in a GV village similar to what we have now. This would happen at the very end of the tutorial. There, we can place a sign that says, "all you just learned, plus many more exciting activities, will allow you to make villages like this. All you see here was player made". The idea would be that after experiencing Wurm first hand and learning how to use tools, you suddenly see where all this can take you. Your imagination is the limit and the very few suprisingly simple tasks that you have just been exposed to can lead to something you may have not even imagined. Welcome to a sandbox world.

Let's combine the two into a mind-blowing welcome to Wurm.

Will there be any silver refunds for the GV deeds? I have over 100 days of upkeep sunk in mine.

A true pity, i will not get to see the Eir and Amnesty road again. The road i once worked on with Mr. Bloodworth will be gone and forgotten.
