It's just incase people are wondering if they'd get banned for doing it, because i know a lot of wu players on wyvern who used macroing even tho it was disallowed.

Macroing is mentioned because many servers have explicit rules about it. In the case of Desolation, as you read more about the server and experience it yourself it has leveraged game mechanics to make the whole problem of macroing irrelevant. Macroing at best gives someone a very short term and fleeting advantage (as in 3 hour - 1 day perhaps of advantage)

 

The thing we have done is look at the tools provided to us in WU and the common problems experienced by people trying to play fair PVP in WU. We have then added mods and gameplay tweaks to try to eliminate the things, like macroing, that make the playing field unfair by providing a huge advantage to those who do it. The goal is to make whether you macro or not unimportant. Once that's in place it really doesn't matter if people macro or not.

 

The goal of Desolation is not to be WO. It's to be Wurm with some different design choices. 

 

We also have working traps, archery towers, strange devices and numerous other improvements. It may not be the experience for you or it may indeed be just what you always wanted.

There is no real advantage you get from macroing. The biggest issues with PVP servers with low skill gain, that people use macroes, and just sit online 24/7. Some have fatigue, some doesn't.

BTW - For those reading the recent discussion about macroing on Desolation here's the complete section 1. It explains the reasoning behind that particular rule:

 

1) Macroing is permitted on Desolation v3 

 

Wurm Unlimited provides no tools or mechanisms to prevent someone from macroing. Many server admins try to mediate this to some degree by declaring macroing illegal and then doing random spot checks on players that typically involve things like moving or teleporting or pushing the player to see how they react. The reality is that simply using a tool like Wurm Assistant you can setup alerts that prevent most of these things from working more then once. Unfortunately it also has two downsides, some innocent players get wrongfully accused of macroing and admin people end up spending huge amounts of time trying to catch macroing instead of having the opportunity to just play the game.

 

As a result on Desolation what we have tried to do is to work within what game mechanics allow us to do. By increasing the skill gain and action rates while also capping the maximum characteristic level possible most of the advantages gained by macroing are very limited and fleeting. So far there have not been examples of anyone who macros having a clear advantage over someone who doesn't. This hopefully leads to a much more fair playing field for everyone.
