Posted March 3, 2016 I done clean decompile of server.jar \ common.jar and i think that making repo for community modding is a good idea - what community think? Is it a good idea to ake public repositorie? Who like \ can \ will participate in commiting?
Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) i don't think that would be actually legal, if you mean putting the decompiled server.jar/common.jar up there Edited March 3, 2016 by asdf

Posted March 3, 2016 Code Club AB still owns the intellectual property rights for their code. Just because you are putting it there for free doesn't make it legal, and neither does doing it anonymously. Decompiling someone's code may not be illegal in of itself for most code though it typically is a violation of the licensing agreements most companies typically have. And there is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) in the United States copyright law which actually makes decompiling or even possessing decompiled code illegal in some cases (those involving Digital Rights Management or DRM). Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and this should not be construed as me giving legal advice, but merely a caution that what you proposed may well be illegal at least in some countries. Posted March 4, 2016 You can download the dedicated server from Steam anonymously. You don't even need a Steam account as you can do it with Steam Command tool. Wurm has said they aren't going to stand in the way of people modding. I don't see why they would care as long as the main read me file communicates the unoffical status of the progject, standard WU mod/fan-works discalimer, and that the game belongs to code club. More importantly! Do we even need such a thing? I don't see how it's going to be useful.
Posted March 11, 2016 I believe rolf is fine with it On 12/4/2015 at 7:26 AM, Rolf said: Yes, it's expected. Nothing we can control or have the possibilites to pursue. Part of modding. Negative thing is the code can change fairly dramatically between releases which is why we will add a proper API for modding that won't change as much as the compiled code. I personally have a local git repo that i commit decompiled code from the jars for every major release, for easier tracking of changes and so on. I could see the value of something like that on GH for ease of use and accessibility, if CC aren't against that.
Posted April 13, 2016 Me too. With their consent, it would be nice to have. The right thing here is to take into consideration, this is their IP. Just because you can download and mod any opensource project (which wurm is NOT) and have the source, does not mean you can do whatever you want. There are legal parameters with any license, including opensource licenses. I wouldn't like my code being stolen and modified without permission, for sure. Be as it may, best approach would be CC making a repo... Then we fork it, and keep up to date with upstream, the right way. We can then control our own updates and modifications, and have automatic/continuous-deployment Would really love to hear Code Club's take on that. (the forkable repo) PS: i was about to post a new thread asking about the rights and permissions of the code and legalities, when i saw this.. Think Ill wait for someone with authority to respond here.
Posted May 21, 2016 Agreed. It would be nice actually to have a repo on github directly from Codeclub AB themselves since they seem to consent to it's use (the licensing can be handled quite easily through private repo via invite only. If epic games can do it with unreal engine 4...). Either way, no biggie but I do think it would benefit the modding community greatly.
Posted May 21, 2016 Someone had mentioned making a site for mods to organize and list them all. However I have heard nothing since and this was a long time ago. I started a post about it, if nobody is doing it I would be happy to set something up. However I believe it is much easier/better for the modders to use their own git repositories, as they usually have it synced with their preferred code environment, and it allows them direct control over who can edit their mod files.
