Large Structure Help: Is This Building Possible?

Recommended Posts

I have a question regarding the construction of larger than average homes.

I am trying to build a 9x7 three story mansion with a 5x3 courtyard in the center. I have 54 Carpentry.

Here is the (literal) floor plan with the floorless courtyard in the center:

 __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __

|               __ __ __               |

|          __|              |__          |

|         |                        |         |
|         |                        |         |

|         |__                __|         |

|              |__ __ __|              |

|__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __|

Here is the same plan, but including walls:

 __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __

|              |__|__|__|              |

|          __|__|    |__|__          |

|__ __|                        |__ __|
|__ __|                        |__ __|

|         |__ __      __ __|         |

|              |__|__|__|              |

|__ __ __|__|__|__|__ __ __|

So far, I have built this:

 __ __ __ __

|              |__|

|          __|__|

|__ __|
|__ __|

|         |__ __

|              |__|

|__ __ __|__|

It allows me to plan two more tiles, like this:

 __ __ __ __ __

|              |__|__|

|          __|__|

|__ __|
|__ __|

|         |__ __

|              |__|__

|__ __ __|__|__|

But if I try to add anything else, it says my carpentry is not high enough to build a structure of this size.

So I looked at the rules, and then counted how many walls and floors I have already built. 22 Floors + 36 Walls = 58

58 > 54

I am rather confused, but I am also a new player, so I may be misunderstanding the mechanics.

Now that I have all the context out of the way, I can finally ask my question(s):

Assuming I raise my Carpentry level enough, will I be able to complete the house?

Do upper-level floors and walls count toward the wall and floor total limit?

If it is possible to build, to what level do I need to raise my Carpentry?

Note: If you are wondering about the upper floors, each will have a smaller surface area than the one below it, so I don't think that will be an issue.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thank you for your time :)

If i understand your plan correct, you would need 94 carpentry to plan that house. If you want to test more layouts, i d like to redirect you to the WurmArmyKnife which has some nice tools in it, also a house-planning tool is included. Forum-threat can be found here: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/54631-wurm-army-knife-134-mapping-tools/&hl=%2Barmy%2B%2Bknife

Otherwise just search the Wiki or Forum for it.

Or go for the WPlanner by Budda. Can be found here: http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Toolkits

Thank you for the quick reply.

I used Deed Planner to plan the house, since it is fairly intuitive and has all the types of walls and terrains, and lets me view it in 3D.

count each outside wall of the structure, and inside if you are doing a courtyard, then all the tiles it covers on the ground floor, that is the level of carpentry you need

You can do that  top plan with 63 carp skill but you have to build it as a whole box first. Then you can plan the inner walls but you wouldn't be able to plant trees or such cause it would be considered inside a house. other wise you will need 94 skill to build it so the inside is actually out side. When planning a house remember you have to count every outside wall and then add that to how many floor tiles that are inside the house  to equal the carp skill needed
