Outfitting Tower Guards

Recommended Posts

For those not aware its been a longtime feature to be able to outfit tower guards with player crafted weapons and armor, thus upgrading them. Though they are not capable of using mounts or archery as ranged weapons.

It doesn't get much widespread usage due to two main problems. One, anyone from the same kingdom can equip or dequip a guard. Tower guards can die from non-pvp means, even suicide (can be fun to watch ur events), thus leaving gear scattered about.

I would like to see guards enabled to use bows, and perhaps even mounts.

Additionally some permission system or setup for preventing just anyone from being able to strip guards.

Also some central storage or armory to help with managing and equipping large numbers of guards. At either the deed or pmk level.

I must have completely forgotten that guards could be equipped.

However, the 'anyone can unequip' is someone an issue. Whilst some kind of 'management' would be really cool, it would probabl be simpler to prevent any 'unequipping' unless the item you are trying to equip is superior to what they are already using. In which case, you receive the old piece in exchange for the upgrade.

Perhaps also the equipped items are 'no-drop' for the guards, but take a certain % of dmg upon death. (so they don't last forever, but longer than just one fight and being dropped on the ground somewhere...

Well, at least it's somewhere useful to store your troll club collection...

It's a nice feature, being able to buff your local guards, but some sort of continuity would be nice, e.g. when a guard dies, the one that spawns to replace it automatically picks up the dead guard's gear.

Make it to where they can't be unequiped of their gear unless they are in the deed of a player and that deed owner can then unequip them.  Give the gear mild decay ticks so they wear out over time, and damage ticks when they take damage or are killed.  If the guard is killed, either have the gear disappear with its body when it "decomposes" or have it transferred to the new guard that spawns in its place.

Maybe if instead/as well as changing tower guards, we changed spirit templars? (Not thinking about pvp balance etc here as I have no experience with it)

The whole permissions issue wouldn't be an issue...only mayor + approved villagers and altar their loadouts.

Items could be kept on them after death. (Maybe take damage/ql decay)

That way, you could dress them up (lol) and outfit them with better weapons/armor etc.

Guard towers that are on-deed could work the same way. Maybe make it so only towers that are on-deed can have their guards equipped and outfitted?

This is a fairly complex idea, so please have me excused.

How about making it so that towers are owned by the creator or conqueror in the same manner as e.g. minedoors? Apart from spawning guards each tower would also act as an armoury (a container) in which you can stash weapons, shields etc. and just as with minedoors the owner could set permissions as to who can access the armoury. So instead of players manually arming each guard, when spawned they would automatically grab whatever is available and needed in the armoury. When a guard dies his equipment magically goes back in the armoury. Only when the tower is destroyed or conquered would enemies be able to access the equipment. Ideally towers would be owned by the deed creating or conquering them and have deed permissions controlling access to them. This way in effect the mayor of the deed would be the owner.  Like with minedoors etc it should be possible to transfer ownership of a tower.

Of course towerguards should then balanced so that unarmed they would be much easier to kill.
