more uses for existing metals

Recommended Posts

we have all these metals ingame with very limited uses, some more useless than others... would it be so difficult to make these metals usable for tool making ?

examples: you can make a steel pick, shovel, carving knife, scythe   but not: sickle, hammer, stone chisel ect.   why not just make all tools able to be made from any metal? no bonuses necessary from other metal type tools, just the ability to make these metals able to be used... personally i have TONS of lead of all qualities but very limited iron, if i choose to make tools from lead they would have same graphic but instead be called "hammer, lead" or "hammer, tin" and imp with their creation metal... even metals with an already wide variety of uses could be unlocked to make tools with thus increasing the personalization of your toolset by creating them from brass, or copper or even silver or gold?

this would allow for more personalized tools with no bonuses (except steel's already -20% dmg bonus) and allow more uses for metals with minimal current useage?

this would not be very difficult to implement since there is no new metals, or new tools being added.

what do you think?

Bronze tools were widely used in the past but a brass, silver, or gold tool would be a very weak tool due to malleability and the wear would make them not worth the effort. A lead tool would probably be the same and massively heavy (as would gold). They are simply just very rigid metals.

Tin could be used in roofs, as could copper. For that matter, gold and silver could too if you wanted to really push the posh level.

On steel, it would be nice to have the whole item tree of tools with steel.

+1 for more steel and another use for tin.

even if they do take say +10% dmg from use compared to iron, im sure lots of people would like to have more personalized tools, everything about wurm is about being different from your neighbors, and this would be a huge step in that direciton. not to mention, some regions are flooded with useless veins like lead and tin...  and this would greatly help people in these situations to turn a vein of annoyance into something useful.

need more thoughts, ideas? im surprised nobody wants to make their own spiffy set of gold tools... they have gold / silver / bronze / copper / brass armor... why not tools too?

The question is why have more tools when people are just going to use iron.  Personalised tools are a nice touch (golden sickle would be nice...) but if they have no additional function then people are just going to stick with iron 90% of the time.

If the other materials had a benefit over using iron people might take to them, otherwise they're just going to stick with iron-everything since it is easier to imp/maintain.

+1 though since it would be nice to have that golden sickle.
