Weekly News #2 Short 'n' Sweet

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! Welcome to the second edition of weekly news for 2016!

This week has been fairly quiet in regards to upcoming updates, a lot is being worked on, but unfortunately little is near enough to completion to show. After all, teasers are fun, but no one likes waiting too long!

Patch notes

Spoiler

  • Fixed some issues with mining within deeds.
  • Moved the spawn point of Nathan to Spring Valleys for balancing.

January 14, 2016
  • Fix for sending combined items in mail not having the proper cost.

January 11, 2016
  • Removed Life Transfer effect from armors due to unintended behaviour.
  • Fix for floor, staircases and roof QL when just made.
  • Fix so can continue building floors using menu.
  • Removed “build staircase” option when no floor below is present.
  • Fix for planting sign cooldown, so it ignores own village.
  • Update so PLAN BUILDING is always available, and feedback is given when selected

First Person Wurming

The unstable client now has a special First Person Mode, currently consisting of allowing you to look around with the mouse without left clicking, that turns off when opening windows such as your inventory or containers. We're looking at adding default context sensitive actions to this feature too, meaning  chopping a tree is as simple as left clicking a tree tile with a hatchet activated! While we're looking at actions we can add, we do not have a deadline as to when they will be ingame, so watch this space!

Wurm bridges are falling down!... Sorta.

After a few threads questioning the height  requirements for bridges, I inquired into these limits and potential changes. The reason for these limits are mostly to do with making sure that the support models look right, so, naturally, we've tried removing them. The test server has bridge requirement heights on arches removed, so please jump on and make sure they work properly, if all goes well, we can get the limit removed ingame!

Danger Will Robinson!

Sick of missing messages in the event log? Soon you won't have to! Erik is working on displaying important messages in the center of your screen, meaning easier notifications for you, and better results, check the image for an example. If you have any ideas for messages you'd like to see displayed here, let us know!

Your ranch is HOW big?

Often We all wonder just how many animals of one type there are on a server. In order to sate my curiosity, I snuck into the server rooms with my trusty abacus, and I found out some crazy facts!

  • Xanadu has almost 16000 named horses.
  • There is only one bred pig on desertion
  • Only one percent of the bison on affliction are bred
  • Independence has over three and a half thousand tower guards
  • Someone on Release is breeding mountain lions
  • Xanadu has over 500 merchants
  • Elevation has more hens than any other server bar Xanadu
  • Deliverence has more bred dogs than any other server bar Xanadu
  • There is only ONE seal cub on Xanadu

Definitely interesting, definitely odd, that's for sure!

Weekly Artworks

This weeks screenshot(s) come courtesy of the Wurm Unlimited artwork page, where NESGamepro has decided to put his talent to use. The first screenshot is a slight alteration of Edvard Munch's "The Scream". You can see a Wurm bridge, as well as a knarr in the background.

The second artwork, is, well, odd. We choose not to ask too many questions, but all hope that NESGamepro is okay.

That's it for this week folks! I'll be popping ingame from time to time to check up on you all, and as usual, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to get  in touch!

Until then though, keep on Wurming!

First Person is interesting. Will definitely have to try that. :)

(Also, the left clicking actions as well.)

Wouldn't really be possible without totally dumbing it down (essentially turning it into what we already have, minus the context menus). Too much latency, too many conflicts in the code, etc. You'd pretty much have to rewrite the game from scratch and split the population into regional servers.

First person wurming.... wait WHAT.

This is gonna be revolutionary change like multi story housing.

That and the event messages on screen, it would also be nice if that went into other things like enemy kingdom is capping X guard tower. Perhaps even add an option for what event message appears on your screen, PK's, Capturing towers etc.

Re "Someone on Release is breeding mountain lions"

Actually, Valo on Release was breeding, not mere mountain lions, but champion mountain lions.  But he has now moved on to other amusements.  I dare not think what.

[13:06:09] <Valo> Anyone want a free Champ Mountain Lion Male, 3 speed

[13:08:04] <Valo> actually is a 4 speed

[13:08:21] <Valo> not a big differrence since it isn't ridable but

[13:08:22] <Gammer> someone breeds those?
[13:08:32] <Valo> I was but not anymore

Once again I am no-one, as I do read the tags, and chocolate would be nice.

That said:
[19:27:45] Looking like a huge cat, it is tawny-coloured, with a small head and small, rounded, black-tipped ears.

[19:27:45] She has a normal build.

[19:27:45] It has some illness. It has a certain spark in its eyes.

[19:27:45] Mother is Venerable champion mountain lion.

Not mine, from an alliance deed on Release.
Valo isn't the only one.

Looks like someone on Elevation is secretly raising a chicken army and Regrograde blew a wistle on it!

On an unrelated note, great rendition of the Scream, NESGamepro!

This new first person mode thing is going to be optional, right?

Isn't Wurm 1st person since it exists?

There is the console command "toggle mouselook" - So basicly you add some kind of crosshair-context to it?

Haven't we had "first person mode" from the start, or have I been on powerful hallucinogens for the past couple years?

Edit: In case it's not clear, I'm poking a bit of fun at the name "first person mode", since first person is already the only mode we have. "Mouselook mode" would better describe it.

Elevation has more hens than any other server bar Xanadu

That explains why the spawns suck... along with almost every condition spawner being a rat lion or wildcat spawn...

Also, sounds like if we have inventory always open we don't have the mouselook stuff?  Would be good to be always fully optional, same for the on screen alerts.  Not sure about the context action blabla stuff but optional is good too or maybe its the new stuff when mouselook and old stuff when not?

I wasn't expecting my silly "art" to show up here. Costanza is a masterpiece, there's nothing wrong with me at all. :P

Removing the height requirement on bridges will be so great.
