I shattered Seryll

Recommended Posts

My preist shattered Seryll :(

Requested Event Logs below for Dev review can add more if needed but file size was to big for all of it.

[20:42:59] You call out to Vynora by all her names.
[20:43:03] You beg Vynora to accept your offerings.
[20:43:08] You ask Vynora for forgiveness if some of the items do not please her.
[20:43:13] You ask Vynora to bless you with her favors.
[20:43:18] You kneel at the altar in silent hope.
[20:43:24] Vynora is very pleased with your offerings.
[20:43:31] You start to cast 'Nolocate' on a ring.
[20:43:45] You fail to channel the 'Nolocate'.
[20:43:45] The ring emits a strong deep sound of resonance, then shatters!

[20:44:12] A ring to put on your finger. It bears an aura of Vynora. It could be improved with a lump.
[20:44:12] You can barely make out the signature of its maker,  'Vo.t.x..'.
[20:44:12] Nolocate has been cast on it, so it protects from locating. [10]
[20:45:54] Your request for assistance has been submitted to online chat moderators, game masters and developers. Please wait patiently!
[20:46:03] You start to cast 'Opulence' on a meal

What was the channeling on the priest? From what I understand it is super difficult, if not impossible to shatter seryll.

Not strictly a bug, but may be unintentional.  Of all the enchants, Nolocate seems to have a doNegativeEffect that doesn't skip shatter checks if the target is made of seryll.

wiki says:

http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Seryll_lump

Special properties

  • Armour made of seryll has the same properties as glimmersteel.
  • Weapons made of seryll do not have a faster swing timer or do more damage.
  • Seryll chain barding currently does not show "red" in color when placed on a horse.
  • Seryll items do have a chance to shatter when enchanting.

[20:49:27] <Bloodscythe> this is the first case i've heard of it shattering

[21:43:40] <Bloodscythe> can you post your findings and event longs on the forums bug report?

[21:43:47] <Bloodscythe> for the devs to look at

[21:43:51] <Bloodscythe> something seems awefully wrong here

[21:44:14] <Bloodscythe> some others say seryll will not shatter yet also will not give you that error message you received

Wiki has been updated to reflect this. Thanks for bringing it up.

As noizhead puts it, it does seem like an oversight(hopefully).

I had thought that the selling point was that they had a high chance to not shatter, not entirely immune to shattering

Looks like you won the shattering lottery, I'm afraid ;)

FWIW, I remember shattering a seryll pendulum with a lurker cast, although this was a while back.

I was completely unaware it was impossible to shatter, tbh that seems like bullocks to me.. When seryll first came out I made a ring out of it and the first cast insta-shattered it. I've shattered a pendulum at some point as well, casting dark lurker.

The recurring problem with this game seems to be that the Dev's rely on player feedback to fix bugs, but we aren't even told what the intended features of the game are.

From what I've learned in the past it is always possible to shatter an item but as skills and bonuses increase the chance becomes vanishingly small but the chance is always actually there.

I always wanted it where if you get past a certain skill point that the chance to shatter became zero as testament to all the effort that you've put into channelling. 90 channelling would be good for this as tying it in with the title its that little extra bit of kudos.

Afaik you can shatter seryll with nolocate only. Just rumors but still..

From what I can see (which is a little more due to how WU code can decompile), this is intentional and not a bug.

I can ask if it is needed, but I have a feeling the reason behind it is for balance in PvP. The ability to improve a ring to 90+ QL and then cast nolocate over and over on it until you get a high 90's cast would give you a ring that would be very difficult to locate through indeed. In this way, you can still create such a ring - but at the risk of shattering it with improving the cast.

@ 30 skill, stick to opulence for Vyn, or Light Token for Nahjo.

If it's just rings for pvp reasons that's perfectly okay I guess.

That really makes no sense considering nolocate is an insanely easy spell, where seryll is the best armor in the game and you can cast it over and over until you get 90+ aosp/web on everything.  Would just be better off to keep it consistent and no shatter for everything then there is no confusion

I blew up my seryll pendulum with lurker in the woods, at least that was the spell I was casting at the time if I recall correctly, was a 18ql item
