Unable to Update Client

Recommended Posts

I am unable to update the client, so I can log in. I tried checking the optional packs, but this error still occurred. Does anyone know how I can resolve this? I already tried rebooting my pc and resetting my router, but I don't know what else I can do now.

This means your computer cannot communicate with the patch server (updates.wurmonline.com)

If you have evere dited HOST file, you want to undo the changes as it contains information from a past change, and doesn;t allow the client to find the new address on its own, otherwise don;t worry about that part :)  The most common cause is that the IP address of wurm's patch server has changed and your ISP has not yet updated their "lookup servers" with the new numerical IP. The easiest solution is to wait a few hours, some find switching to Google Public DNS speeds ut up a little.

I have never edited the HOST file, but thank you. I guess I have to wait for Comcast Cable to update their lookup servers...

Interesting, I have Comcast also, so I just tried and am having issues updating too. I don;t get an HS_ERR_PID or recent colsole log  just some popup message. It seemed to want a new version of wurmclient.jlnp so I downloaded one from Wurmpedia and tried again:  http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp

It seems to be patching now although that might have been coincidence and just means I had an old client and Comcast finally updated its lookup servers. I guess my downloaded client is pretty old and I have been runniong off the websote JLNP. If you use a previously downloaded client, you might try seeing if getting a new client first from Wurmpedia and running from that, helps at all?  Or just see if Comcast is now ok finding the patch server. Might also try restarting computer to see if it is somehow using cached data to find patch server.

I just downloaded wurmclient.jlnp(1) and executed the file, but it immediately launched the client. I tried deleting the current WO directory, and running the new file again. It asked me for a directory to install it, so I picked the one I had. The client launched, but the update failed again. Unfortunately, I don't know if I actually did a fresh install. I can't find an uninstall executable for WO, and it's not listed in Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features.

I looked around, and found that I can completely remove WO by going to Control Panel\Programs\Java\General and viewing Temporary Files. I deleted the WO application in that window. And then, I deleted the WO directory again, and tried relaunching the application. Well, the update failed yet again and the new client still remembered my most recent username.

Apparently there is a wurmpedia page on uninstalling the client, but none of the wurmpedia webpages are available atm.

Is it working now? There seems to be some connection between Wurmpedia and patch server as often when someone cannot reach one, they cannot reach the other either.

I don;t think it is anything in your Wurm folders so a complete fresh install should not be required, however I can copy paste here the contents of the Wurmpedia entry (it does not seem to be a complete uninstall/fresh install, as they don;t want you in registry or deleting folder, , I will look around a bit more to find a TOTAL NUKE guideline):

Reinstall

Reinstalling the client is fairly simple.

  • Run 'javaws -viewer' (e.g. in windows, from start menu -> run)
  • Delete the wurm client entry you want to uninstall
  • Launch the client from the website (or the sidebar here) to install again.

Things not to do

  • Don't delete your wurm directory. It only contains profile data.
  • Don't change anything in the registry.

Thank you. When I tried launching the client 16 hours after my last post, the client was update. I guess the ISP updated the "lookup servers."

Is this for the Wurm Unlimited client or Wurm Online?  You keep referring to Wurm Online but it is in the Wurm Unlimited forums.

Thanks, I think it must be in the wrong section, as I believe WU updates through STEAM and not through updates.wurmonline.com as his log shows. It does not appear to be a WU error log.
