Quality of Life Update

I agree. One of the first major drops in Wurm population came when they jacked up the base subscription price.  Meantime you have lots of players willing to pay more for BLING and cosmetic items.

 

Notice the BIG population drop in 2013  -- yes the drop started BEFORE the price increase, but that's because they gave several months advance notice of the increase, may people cancelled annual / monthly payments once they heard:

Common myths about Wurm Subscriptions:
  • "It's actually less than other games!" -- NOT if you add of the cost of multiple characters and deed costs.  I can play fifty different characters on WOW for less than I paid in Wurm monthly. I say paid as I no longer want to spend $400 a year on WO -- especially when I felt I was not getting the type of respect and courtesy I would normally expect as a longtime customer who was putting a good deal of money into the game, with game breaking bugs often ignored or even introduced right before the staff all took a monthlong vacation...
  • "Anyone can afford paying for Wurm!" -- Not necessarily -- yes, certainly YOU can easily afford it, but that doesn;t mean everyone can. This is the sole reason people whine that "Wurm unlimited is stealing business from wurm Online!"  Certainly if COST was a non-factpr in WO then this would not be happening ...
  • "We need a high enough subscription fee else we'll get too many adolescents!"  News flash, Wurm attracts a much older population in general, and those younger "kiddies" are too busy playing more modern games that are free-to-play anyway. The ones we DO get who are 12 or 14 or so, tend also to be exceptionally mature for their age PLUS the exact sort of player who is likely to be loyal to the game for years and years. Meantime I bet a pretty hefty share of former Wurm players are either unemployed, under-employed, or otherwise under financial hardships that preclude spending many hundreds of dollars a year on a single game.
  • "Anyone can EASILY earn enough ingame to pay all of their costs!" Many players in fact do make 20-40 silver a month from inagem business activities, and for many that is much of the fun of the game. But not everyone wants to treat their favorite game as aanother job.

This is great news. I have spent several years now playing on Sklotopolis and have never gotten less than FIRST CLASS service from the staff and admins, and far less bugs and downtime than in WO.

There is a lot cool stuff on the way. We want to make Wurm how we would like it to be in the first place, creating our own version, or even our own game and the upcoming QoL update is inspired by the time between 2008 and 2015 when we were actively playing Wurm Online. Many things will be added which we have been missing for so many years. Things which should make your life a whole lot easier, while we want to keep the spirit and the nature of Wurm at the same time.

QoL - Update

The big Quality of Life update is finally here, we have been working hard on this update and it is huge. We want to make Wurm how we would like it to be in the first place, creating our own version, or even our own game and the QoL update is inspired by the time between 2008 and 2015 when we were actively playing Wurm Online. Many things will be added which we have been missing in Wurm for so many years. Things which should make your life a whole lot easier, while we want to keep the spirit and the nature of Wurm at the same time.

Changes:

  • There is now a deed disband warning on login if one of your alts is inactive and has a deed.
  • When a fireplace of any kind (oven, forge, campfire,...) is going low on fuel, a warning will be displayed. (Tipp: Rename your forges if you are using more than one at a time)
  • The help command to call guards now works in all chats and broadcasts to local chat automatically.
  • Your items are always death protected on PVE servers now, expect on Caza.
  • There is now a teleport home action which you can use to teleport to one of your spawn points.
  • Coordinates will be broadcasted for abandoned deeds when they are disbanded. (Looting is a very entertaining part of the game. But play FAIR!! WE ARE ALL FRIENDS! No unfair looting or loot wars otherwhise this will be disabled again if there is griefing, metagaming, hate speech or anything else which doesn't suit our FAIR PLAY policy)
  • You now get 5 catseyes per creation action.
  • Treasure chests can no longer be located via ESP, their appearance is now completly random and can be any item model.
  • Deed Info now shows the last active time of the mayor or citizens.
  • The deed info now uses a more readable font for certain sections.
  • There is now a support ticket alert for staff members and in the MGMT chat to decrease the answer times.
  • An alert for players when their support ticket is updated has been added.
  • The command /alts will show you own alts including the last login date.
  • The /alts command will now work cross server and consider all characters on the cluster.
  • Backpacks will fit into ovens again.
  • Ovens are now a bit bigger in size.
  • Mailing has been made almost free in every case. Some cases still charge you 1 iron but that is the maximum.
  • GMs can now see an overview of staff last login and activity.
  • Drake hide drop has been reduced.
  • Dragon scale drop has been reduced.
  • New horse eggs which can not decay will now be handed out to fresh accounts.
  • The bulk sorting should be fixed finally.
  • Offdeed building decay has been increased on all servers but Caza.
  • Offdeed building decay has been halfed on Caza.
  • Epic missions have been disabled on all servers.
  • Harvesting trees and bushes now has a better QL mix of the items you receive.
  • Picking sprouts now also has a better QL mix of the items you receive.
  • The new player broadcast has been fixed.
  • An alert for new questions in CA Help for staff players has been added.
  • Mayors can now command vehicles on their deeds if the owner is inactive for more than 7 days to remove them from their deed.
  • The quality of beds will now matter for sleep bonus, at 100QL the bed will grant 50% more sleep bonus.
  • Body strength should now be registered by mounts properly.
  • Unneeded GM commands have been removed from players /help output.
  • Fixed a NullPointerException which could cause the server to crash when a mission is finished.
  • You can now equip and unequip horse gear when leading a horse.
  • You can no longer see hidden vein with ESP or live map.
  • High prospecting skill will make it possible to see hidden veins with ESP or live map.
  • You can now regenerate stamina on vehicles on any slope.
  • Added an unequip all action which makes it possible to unequip your whole armour with one action.
  • There is now an action to receive all mails which are free at any mailbox.

hmm, regarding 

  • Treasure chests can no longer be located via ESP, their appearance is now completely random and can be any item model.

Can be easily bypassed, if you add rare, supreme and fantastic to ESP keywords!!

Suggestion: If possible - change name so no rare... will appear?

Horses are named, so I assume same code-pattern can be applied maybe..

And TYVM for this wonderful update, appreciate your time and effort.

Also I noticed on WO Woad can be planted in potter planters.  Is that an option in WU or just not implemented yet in the client?

Two Updates in two days

 

30th July 2019

  • Added a /lastdonated command
  • Added a donation database to track donations ingame to give out special gifts to our supporters in the future.
  • Added some web commands to make the donation tracking possible cross server.
  • Treasure chests are now fully undetectable with ESP.

 

31st July 2019

  • A few smaller bugs have been fixed
  • Rarity shown for the items outside containers and inventories is back.
  • Fixed a problem in the /lastdonated command
  • Fixed a few GM notifications

Sklotopolis needs YOU!

In our last big update we already implemented a lot awesome Quality of Life improvements, which were mostly ideas of our staff team. Fortress Sklo

Following up our recent Quality of Life survey which we have already announced in this post: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/133291-sklotopolis-pve/&do=findComment&comment=1745334 we are now going to the next level. For the developers of Sklotopolis it was always clear a good development progress can only be achieved if the developers are actually playing the game and we had been gone for way too long. 

Dominik and Sklo are back and joining the fantastic worlds of Sklotopolis living their biggest adventure in Wurm so far with the main goal of finding more changes which will make Sklotopolis an even greater place to play on. The deed Fortress Sklo has been founded by them just a few days ago and it is going huge. Located on a mountain the deed will become a superior medieval castle over the next weeks and we are enjoying working on it a lot and having tons of fun. So be prepared seeing us going by on our awesome low QL large carts!

Yearly Maintenance Downtime

 

All machines in our network are currently stopped :) A picture you don't see very often, but Sklotopolis is going through the yearly maintenance downtime at the moment.

Why we need to do this?

We are running a very powerful server, on this server we have about 9 different virtual machines (servers) running. These machines need some care and also the host operating system needs some maintenance and restarts.

 

But stay tuned as we will already be back shortly, things running as planned. We are looking forward to see you all again ingame soon.

New Livemap

The livemap is now 4 years old and has seen many development iterations. Finally we have found the best solution at the current time, a fully automated livemap, using a flat representation of the map, to make sure pixel coordinates match ingame coordinates at 100%. Especially Novus has so many deeds and towers that it is impossible to handle them by hand. We have also added some more unique features to the livemap, try it out yourself now and find out what's new on the livemap.

So say good bye to long delays in submitting markers or the pain of outdated markers, from now on deeds and towers will be added automatically.
