Better Mechanics for Placement of Lamps

Recommended Posts

I suspect eventually Rolf will want the game to support placing items on tables, etc. so the code for this suggestion could be re-used.

Instead of planting a lamp on the ground and doing the whole pushing/pulling/angling bit to get it to just the exact, perfect spot, I suggest right clicking on a lamp to plant, left click plant would show the lamp (or a semi-transparent version) that could be positioned with the mouse on the tile the players stands on to place it in the exact spot the player wants it.  The middle mouse wheel could be used to rotate the lamp, the left mouse for placement, and the right mouse to cancel the action.

Wish we could place items like other sandbox games - wildstar and secondlife is a good example of free range placing using x,y,z axis. Pushing and pulling to perfect positions is a chore.

Yes! No more accidentally placing lamps inside walls and needing to bash them down to get the lamps out!

This would be fantastic. The current system is serviceable, but clunky. It's also a huge PITA to get things exactly where you need them.

You never needed to do that. Just go to settings >compatibility> check disable color picking....you can click on anything inside the wall. Don't forget to uncheck once done, as it can cause other problems later (like unable to click on ladders, etc).

Still +1 on the suggestion

[right click] > Drop > At feet (instead of 'On ground')

Would allow you to look straight-down and position the drop perfectly

Otherwise:

-Using known window-edges or having center-marks on your monitor screen (using clear tape and a pen) can aid repetitive placement of objects when you develop a consistent method for aligning your view against/within the tile edges

-Using mouse-look to fine-tune your left-right facing, you can ensure your squareness with the world grid when a hi-lighted 'flat' tile has a perfectly straight border line (no pixelation)

-Activating climbing, and while dragging a heavy cart while carrying a heavy inventory (bricks from the loaded cart), will slow your movement for more precise adjustment of your feet

-Using 'disembark' on a tile will place you in the center of that tile; Keep your horse targeted and your facing square (pointing perfectly north, east, south or west) and you should be able to repeatedly embark/move/disembark/drop in a straight line while dropping each item one tile apart

-Program a key-binding for 'glance right' and 'glance left' to allow for easier looking without disturbing your facing

Maybe do the thing with everything that has a timer for unload/plant? And maybe even altars.

Good suggestion Eyesgood! This would be a very simple and more important precise method for planting items. Some work to code it but very worthwhile for those of us who like to plant items precisely.

+1 as well, would be nice not to lose a lamp in a wall when trying to push em'.

I always figured the easiest way to add a better placement method in would be to be able to drag the item like you would a cart, except in front of you. That way would could just walk around while it moved with you until you had it where you wanted then release.

Not the perfect way but nearly there.
