When is vacation time over?

Recommended Posts

Like the title says does anyone know when the paid staff are going to be back in the office working again? (Not saying they don't need a break/vacation but i would like to know when they are back)

There are several things i am waiting on like the trader poll results for Xanadu and what the next big thing is going to be that they are going to work on..things that only will be answered when they are back in the office.

Ohhhh...nvm.

*looks at US crippling debt and economic meltdown*

Not much better over there, eh? :P

Search up some figures about work output per hour spent at work.

Sure you work 50-60 hour weeks, but only get as much done as our 40 hour hour weeks due to fatigue thanks to lack of time off and affordable healthcare.

You do know that Europe is not a country, its a group of countries, each with its own employment laws.

Winters in sweden are hard, long and cold. So I guess the lifestyle and the whole feeling is different, they are enjoying the summer there.

If you search a job become a firefighter, great payment, much freetime, highly recommend my job :D

There are a couple of devs who are back, and volunteer devs (e.g. Tich) never had time off anyway.

It still surprises me every year how itchy some players get about dev holidays. It's semi-rare for employed developers to take time off outside of formal holiday in Wurm and on a whole in Sweden, and that means that the majority of the time, when one dev is around, they're all around. Someone being away for weeks in a small business elsewhere could seriously hit productivity (e.g. if Wox had a 3 week break in October then we would be limited to outputting only around half the amount of art assets we can for almost a whole month, even while the rest of the team steams ahead with programming.) Holidays all at once though negates issues with people being away at certain times, limiting progress of the entire team.

Yes, there are longer holidays than in most countries in Sweden... but it's the law! And other Swedish studios like Dice and Mojang have to give out exactly the same to their employees, just they're much bigger companies without the same transparency you're all spoilt with here in Wurm. :P

Rolf has been around for a few days occasionally while on "holiday" too to fix issues (e.g. the mine door bug that caused a PvP suspension) so although we don't have juicy dev progress to show, essential fixes still happen. Devs will be in full swing again imminently.

No kidding, these Europeans get more time off in one holiday then most Americans get in vacation days the entire work year.... And America is lazy!?

Yes, there are longer holidays than in most countries in Sweden... but it's the law!

This is utter and complete ######. The law says that your employer has to offer you a certain amount of vacation weeks for a certain amount of work weeks. You're not forced to take a vacation at a certain time of the year and you're not forced to take out your entire vacation all in one sweep.

We're not "itchy" because old Roffieboy is taking some time off - We're annoyed because they announced this to be the summer of bugfixing and then took pretty much the entire summer off. Like I've said before - They could've announced the "Fall of bugfixing" where they were all actually at the office instead.

Do all of you PR officers think it is good PR for the game to speak of the agitated players in the derogatory and insulting manner that you do?

All i wanted to know was when they were going to be back. With the lack of anything from Rolf most of the time we have no way of knowing really when they are in the office or not. Like with updates we never know if it was an update from the office or the volunteer staff that put it up...

I don't know how that all works really and would be interesting to know. Do the volunteer developers have their own test servers that they work on then they submit things to be approved or what? Do they get assignments on things to do or they just work on what they want?

Mandatory vacation time in Sweden is about 4-5 weeks.

When it comes to test servers - I am not sure about server devs but we, client devs, are just testing changes on publicly available test server or "normal" servers. We have some assignments as well, don't worry about that. :)

Its because you're lazy that you have to work 5 weeks longer per year :P

I looked into employment laws in Sweden and I believe my original post was correct. Employees of over 1 year are entitled to a minimum of 5 weeks (25 days) paid vacation per year, and this will often come in the form of employees taking vacation over the month of July for many Swedish companies. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statutory_minimum_employment_leave_by_country https://www.englishrules.com/2007/swedish-vacation/ http://www.thelocal.se/discuss/index.php?showtopic=58931

I understand why you might be frustrated that devs aren't around at the moment, especially if there are certain bugs or issues that you've had to deal with for a while. But I still stand by my point that for a small business like Code Club AB, employee holiday occuring all around the year would potentially be quite harmful, whereas holiday occuring all at once means that we don't have to ever juggle being short on people at any point when development is up and running. And, as above, Summer isn't over, and once devs are back I believe they intend to continue working on bugfixing, with the plan being to not start looking into any major new features until the Autumn.

I apologise that you found my post offensive, but in no way was it supposed to be derogatory or insulting. I often post colloquially because I don't want to seem like I'm a staff member who is posting from a million miles away or in some kind of "them vs us" situation, but I think that sometimes that colloquiality can be mis-interpreted and was maybe not appropriate in this case.

I believe that ErikN and (iirc?) Wox are back in the office already, and other devs will be back in the next 1-2 weeks. You can expect a new news post within the next fortnight I think :3

I'm not entirely sure how the dev test servers work, I think there are a few and I'm sure some volunteer devs do use them. They're basically just flat pieces of land that can be used for the first round of testing, Wox posted a video once that showed him testing horse armour on an (infinite, not flying) plane.

Summer isn't over

'Summer' runs right through until the end of August in a lot of European countries, so plenty of time left yet.

Well, 4-5 weeks of vacation is one of the few benefits living in the socialist dream that is Sweden.

Paying the high taxes is not as fun.

The test server, I have full access to, but i'm no the only server dev that does.

So currently its being used for testing the new settlement roles, which will be expanded to other permission changes when i'm happy with them.

Also its using the new rendering client, which is still WIP (work in progress).

Vacation.. whats that... oh holiday :)
