Requesting changes / Reporting errors

If you are requesting a change to the wiki, are reporting an error that you've found, or are an editor and making a major change, please make a post with the following:

  • Direct link to the page in question. If the page does not exist, specify this and suggest a title for the new page.
  • Paste the inaccurate information or whatever must be changed. If it's an addition, specify this.
  • Please indicate what sort of testing you've done to come up with this new information, or include an in-game screenshot or paste of a log. This is more so that editors have a clearer idea of what needs to be changed.

If you are an editor and able to make changes to the wiki, please make sure of the summary field. If you're updating something based upon a report from the forum here, please include the URL of the thread. Every edit made should make use of the summary field, as it gives a clear message on the Recent Changes and the history of each page as to what was changed and why. Even simple spelling mistakes should be mentioned here.

Posting potential changes here and the information supporting the change allows for transparency and for a community discussion and can lead to more accurate information. That said, replies to threads here should be respectful, meaningful, and on-topic. If you have additional information to provide, please follow the above as well.

View History and removing information
Another helpful thing to remember is that any and all changes on the Wurmpedia can be reviewed by using the View History button at the top right of the page. If any information is removed, but is later found to be accurate, it can be easily found and added back by using View History. This is also why it is very important to use the Summary field, as it makes finding the relevant edit a lot easier.

Read more / Overview Pages
When you are writing a summary paragraph on an overview page, it is recommended to include a line at the bottom that contains links to further reading. You can see examples of this on the Basic Knowledge page. This is helpful if you find it needed to briefly explain a subject as it pertains to the article itself, but feel that the player would benefit from knowing a little more or that the subject is more complex than what you can cover in a short paragraph. The formatting used in the page above is accomplished as such:

'''Read more''': [[Page_one]] | [[Page_two#Section|Friendly Name]] | [url://to.external.link|Text For Link]

Formatting on the Wiki
There are a number of functions available to help with formatting your edits and articles on the Wurmpedia within the editor itself, however this is not a complete set of tools. The Media Wiki Help: Formatting page is a great resource to learn more about the Wiki markup codes and other tricks to make your articles read well and look amazing, and you can learn a lot by visiting other pages on the Wurmpedia, clicking Edit and looking over the formatting used on that particular page.  When you do decide upon a particular format, please ensure that it fits well with the rest of the pages on the Wurmpedia as it helps to keep things consistent and readable.

Providing Images
You may also post screenshots that are needed to this thread for an Assistant+ to format and upload onto the wiki. Your images should not have any mouse-over (blue outline) in them, should be well-lit and not too dark, and taken against an appropriate background. When taking a screenshot, the item should be alone in the frame. Try to use a contrasting background that isn't too busy, such as marble or stone slab or even wood flooring if the item is lighter in color. Please ensure that your game settings are set as high as possible for textures and anti-aliasing. You may post full screenshots here for an Assistant+ to format.

These are just guidelines that I personally recommend, written from my experience as an editor and a Wurmpedia Assistant.

Thank you and happy Wurming!
