Why is that?

Recommended Posts

I was watching a fail video today on YouTube and it got me to thinking... why do we find other peoples misery so funny? In that video you can hear all the friends standing around laughing so hard when someone fails at a stunt or something and crashes...why is that?

I asked myself that question and i could not come up with a good answer to it but we do it seems.

Can I push you over as an experiment?

Honestly though, I assume its a mixture of shock, relief they didn't get hurt too badly and seeing something you didn't expect. (You create an expectation in your head of what you think is going to happen) I know that last part is partly to do with why jokes are funny, so I'm guessing it applies here too.

My favorite is when someone fails, falls and smashes their face or genitals for example, and then everyone starts laughing and asks the question "are you ok?" NO!!! I am not okay, I just smashed my ***** into that pole (or something like that). Why do we ask a rhetorical question when we obviously know the answer.
