Same here. I updated my java today also. So when I restarted my pc, wurm was missing completely. It just poofed from my system. Now I can't download the client. I don't know what's going on.

Well even though it said downloaded earlier, it removed java completely from my pc. o_O Now it's back on. But I'm still not getting wurm to work. It's giving me Error opening connection to patch server. I even tried unchecking the boxes in the pack updates tab. That usually works when it's stubborn. Not this time UGH.

see if you have a file names hs_err_pid (might be on desktop or in wurm folder). Look for one with today's date and opaste contents here if you find it. That might tell us the issue. Otherwise, it is likely that the Java update made some issue. You could also try reinstalling Java.

you can try downloading client from wurmpedia and see if it is any better:

http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp

http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp

If you have a laptop with "switchable graphics" it may have lost the setting telling it to use NVidia or Radeon for java. You can try in launcher disabling GLSL in Compatability if the game starts to load then crashes.

Clicking the Pack Updates button on the launch screen shows error connecting to patch server.

Clicking "Show error log button" reveals the following lines (any typos are mine; browser won't let me paste):

>>> LoginFrame queue entry exiting.

Connection to patch server failed, falling back to Coral.

Coral failed as well, abandoning this attempt.

class.OYBqnaeGJB: Error opening connection to patch server.

java.net.UnknownHostException: updates.wurmonline.com

Trying "ping" from a command prompt yields "Ping request could not find host updates.wurmonline.com."

http://tracert.com/resolver for updates.wurmonline.com resolves to 185.59.221.29.

Updated "hosts" file in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\.

Wurm now launches for me.

Good luck!

Advised member to use Google's free DNS services to bypass his local ISP.  Based on response this seems to have fixed him up.

Editing the "hosts" file requires "Run As Administrator".

Editing the "hosts" file requires "Run As Administrator".

I edited the permissions to let my user account run it because I couldn't find the option for this, and it worked. Thanks so much!

I was playing up til 20 minutes ago. Logged out to use my other alt - and cant get back in. Its stuck at 0% download and the play button is greyed out. I downloaded the graphics and sound jar manually - still nothing. I also flushed my dns cache. Still cant log in.

I updated my java in between when i played earlier and when i logged in on my alt. Sigh - so wish i had not.

What's up wurm?

Same issue here, but it wasn't due to updating java between sessions as I hadn't done so and had the same thing happen. I did update now after trying everything else and still the same result.

  1. Go to the Control Panel.

Click Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.

Select the connection for which you want to configure Google Public DNS. For example:

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • To change the settings for an Ethernet connection, right-click Local Area Connection > Properties.

To change the settings for a wireless connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection > Properties.

Select the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click Properties.

Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window.

Click OK.

Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server orAlternate DNS server, write them down for future reference.

Replace those addresses with the IP addresses of the Google DNS servers:

  • For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4.

For IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and/or 2001:4860:4860::8844.

Restart the connection you selected in step 3.

Test that your setup is working correctly.

i change both Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) if you have

I'm not having this issue, but I also don't have a wurm shortcut, just a jnlp file on my desktop.  I use the unstable client that I download from the main page of the Wurmpedia.

I don't know if it will help, but maybe try to download that, click it and see if the game starts from there.
