Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) Some flowering trees/ plants that perhaps could be "Harvested" For the flowers during their season and used as decoration. Not to mention their just pretty and would make great decoration. Cherry Blossoms- Sakura tree (not just the cherry trees we have now, but the sakura tree which produces no fruit but looks lovely.)(I know this isnt eastern asia but not all the trees in this game grow in the same area anyways. Plus Cherry blossoms are pretty, and imo (Even though it doesnt count much) its the prettiest tree) https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/8/11600496_8388d991c4.jpg Magnolia (Its somewhat like the cherry blossom) http://thehoneytreenursery.com/images/maGWATER.jpeg Cacti (I know some dont flower. But i added it to this section because it could. It could also go into the fruit area as well.) http://cactiguide.com/graphics/article/glue_flowers_overview_600.jpg ------ Food trees Palm trees, with coconuts, they can only grow by water kinda like rice. http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Money/Pix/pictures/2010/7/2/1278082389926/palm-tree-beach-006.jpg Mango http://www.philippineherbalmedicine.org/mango_tree_&_fruits.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Non flowering/no food trees/plants Bonsai (Just as cute house decorations) (Technically any tree can be a bonsai. So if they're bored and wanna make more then one type of bonsai that would be cool. However just ones fine too ) https://www.google.com/search?q=bonsai+trees&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=667&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=damhVcG7E4zAggST5YL4Dg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg Aloe (Any kind really i know there are so many Perhaps this can be harvested for another healing thing for burns or such) http://cdn2.drprem.com/healthyeating/wp-content/uploads/sites/33/2013/04/top_7_health_benefits_of_aloe_vera_ctdjw.jpg Maidenhair(ginkgo biloba)- (This one is yellow and ascetically pleasing) http://www.plantplaces.com/photos/GinkgobilobaAutumnGold.jpg ------ Trees from the comments! There are comments on overhauls and some minor trees and changes as well scattered within the comments and are always nice to check out! From SlickShot - A giant sequoia, they could take up the same space as a colossus have a much higher canopy Than the rest of the trees in game. They could also age 2x slower than an Oak, take many more actions to chop down, and produce twice as many logs as any other tree along the stages of its life. Taking up so much space and gorwing so slowly would balance them with the amount of wood they produce. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1c/Grizzly_Giant_Mariposa_Grove.jpg(Ayes------ "Ok, redwood trees then, in redwood forests found in more remote areas. They should be fully grown comparable to RL standards with pickable sprouts that can then be planted anywhere but would take maybe a RL years time to grow to the original wild forests height. Give them the same general appearance and color of the RL forests, with even special uses for them according to their properties. Then others can grow them and harvest them before their full towering forest height and use or sell these logs for their new potential products. Even without any special uses it would still be great to see these new redwood forests, with the potential to grow them on one's own deed, as their towering heights gradually reach full maturity.") At the bottom of page one Baloo has some nice ideas as well.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` These would add a bit more diversity to Wurm and wouldnt cause a game play imbalance. And other trees as well these are just examples. Edited July 20, 2015 by SoraSakura
Posted June 23, 2015 More tree varieties are always welcome, yet I get the impression that the Dev's are either hesitant to add more of just don't think it necessary. Not too long ago we did get about 4 new types but other than that for many years previously we only had the rest of them. Artwork has been improved on most of them though, so that has been nice to see. There are a few varieties that flowers can be harvested from already too. We already have flowering cherry trees as well, according to the season. =Ayes=
Posted June 23, 2015 +1 New content that doesn't cause a gameplay imbalance issue in any way or affect skills? Sign me up. Some palm trees on my beach would look great too!
Posted June 23, 2015 Personally I'd like to see Great Sequoia trees in game. They could take up the same space as a colossus and have a much higher canopy than the rest of the trees in the game. They could also age 2x slower than an Oak, take many many actions to chop down, and produce twice as many logs as any other tree along the stages of its life. Taking up so much space and growing so slowly would balance them with the amount of wood they produce. This is just my wish.

Posted July 10, 2015 Since this is the northern Europe (and it snows) climate zone palm trees would be out of place methinks. Maybe he could make a tropical server. Cacti in the desert would be nice if they code it so they stay there. Something like Prickly Pear Cactus on steppe tiles too.
Posted July 10, 2015 Some new trees/bushes plantable on non-grass tiles would be interesting. +1 for more nature, gives me more forest options!

Cacti in the desert would be nice if they code it so they stay there. Something like Prickly Pear Cactus on steppe tiles too. Wurm has deserts though, and those aren't in North Europe either. I don't think we need to go too RL on this imo. Not to the point that we're restricting content.
Posted July 11, 2015 Yes! Plus the palms can be only on sand tiles for example or like grapes where theres a different kind on north and south of the map perhaps palms nearest the "equator" There are many ways they could go. Or they could just add them like normal.

Posted July 17, 2015 in generall +1 on this idea, as long as those would add some extra depth (food overhaul - to make fruits useful, not just decoration) and those trees / bushes would yeld some special abilities - like - fast growing hedge, lightweight wood (something resembling balsa) or mentioned before mullberries. At this point there is no special difference between pine - birch - linden, chestnut/ and few other. Only cedar, oak, willow, and maple have more uses than timber itself
Posted July 17, 2015 Charcoal PileWood type affects production:Cedarwood piles burn slower due to their decay tick mechanic, but produce the same amount as a non special wood type.Oakenwood piles produce more charcoal as they take less decay per tick and thus have more ticks.Walnut Piles give a 10% bonus on the quality of the items it produces.Other wood types have no effect on burn time or charcoal production.BirchBirch trees are a relatively common species that have been held in high regard for quite some time as the ideal 'fuel tree'. Birchwood will burn longer than an equal weight of other wood; however, it cannot exceed the burn time cap so most time this bonus is wasted.PinePine is the most common species of tree - populating almost as fast as fruit trees while yielding large amounts of decent wood. Pinewood does not yield any bonuses or detriment to items made from it - it's only bonus is it's availability in almost every area in Wurm.
